Rebuffer Problem. Crappy Internet?
Hi. I have searched the forums for a solution, and to no success I found nothing. I have Charter Cable internet, and the speeds are the folling
3Mbps downstream 256Kbps upstream Now, when I join my stream, it rebuffers every 5 seconds or so, and it buffers unusually slow. I am using the VPC 3.1 codec thing, with eec/ecc raw sound? I think I have the bitrate for the video at 128. Here is my system specs: AMD Athlon 64 Fx-57 (Should encode pretty fast? But it takes like 30 minutes to encode 10 minutes of video) 2GB of RAM Nvidia Geforce 7900GTX Abit Motherboard 1 40 GB Harddrive 7200 RPM 1 200 GB Harddrive 7200 RPM 1 80 GB Harddrve 7200 RPM Can someone help me so someone can actually watch the movie without rebuffering every stupid 5 seconds. how sad. Thanks. Or does my internet just suck? |
How many users do you have your server set to ?
With only 256kbps up, if there is more then 1 person watching, you will start getting the buffer problem. Try connecting to your stream locally, http://127.0.0.1:port/listen.pls |
Hi, I dont know what the max users are, but it was ONLY me on the server, using the external IP to connect. What's the point of using local ip, it will not rebuffer, I would think, but it will be useless, because I want to be able to view shows away from my computer, and have other people view my broadcasting.

Hi duddy,
Well, if your the only one on the stream, then yeah, sounds like crappy internet. http://performance.toast.net <- Try the upload speed test. If you upload is less then 150kbps, I would give your provider a call. Chances are they will do nothing and tell you its not a guaranteed service. however, I know when I worked for roadrunner, they were pretty good at keeping their customers happy. (I have seen them up the limits for some people at no cost) Anyways, hope this helps. |
says my upload was 235 kbps, which is close to Charter's advertised speed. I just dont know what is going on with this buffering problem. I should at least be able to have ONE person watch it without it buffering constatly?

Yes, you should be able to have 1 viewer.. One thing you could try is capturing to file, then play it back and see what the bitrate really is.
Are you sending audio along?, Whats the bitrate of the audio?, Whats the frame rate set to? I would try encoding with vp6/acc using 80kbps video and 16kbps audio. @ about 10fps. You sould be able to stream that no problem, even to a couple people. |
Similar issue with interesting findings.
Duddy,
I was having the same issues as you, but they started when I change my wireless internet router from a D-Link DL-524 to a Linksys WRT54GS, which I thought was a higher performing device. I spent 2 hours fiddling with settings to try and get it to work on the new router. However, I reconnected everything to my old router and it's all perfect now... On the Linksys I wasn't even able to get myself on the external IP w/o buffering, but I have had 10 ppl on my connection from my D-Link. I'm not sure why this is, but I thought I'd give you my two cents... Seems like it's nothing to do with my PC, or internet provder. It would be interesting to see what the routing specs on these devices are? Take Care, Mirch. |
Hi everyone:
Quote:
That LOCAL SYSTEM URL should be http://127.0.0.1:<your_server_port>;stream (or whatever filename you have, usually stream).nsv An example of what I mean looks like this... http://127.0.0.1:8040;stream.nsv Notice the ; in the URL as this is VERY important. The URL WILL NOT work without it. Good luck. Hope this helps :D Cheers :D Pat (ala Jeeper One) |
