Upgrade install keeps stalling

I have been attempting to download and install the latest upgrade version of Winamp, was running ver. 5.2 (Pro).
The upgrade installation keeps stalling at "Downloading Windows Media Format installer..." when I uninstall (before trying a fresh installation)some files and the winamp folder are left in my Program Files Folder, and it will not let me delete this folder... What I am to do? I am now trying to go back to my previous version (that always worked great) but that is not going well either, everytime it tries to link up with the Winamp Update site, it all just stalls again. Why won't it let me delete the winamp folder, it warns me that some files (plug ins) are in use, but nothing is running, winamp is not even on the computer anymore.

What's your Windows version?

Are you sure the Winamp process is no longer running? (press Ctrl+Alt+Del > Task manager)

Apart from that, maybe the installer stalls when trying to download because you have a firewall blocking internet access?
You can also choose to not let the installer download the codecs, and install them yourself instead:

If the problem persists, please provide more info (read this!).

Win XP Home Ed (5.1 Build 2600) Ver 2002 Service Pack 2.
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.06 GHz, 510MB RAM
DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904

No Winamp processes listed in the Task Manager.

and the fire wall is turned off.

I thought I had my old 5.03 (Pro) up and running again but I was wrong, it is very unstable, plays the Mike the llama demo fine, but anything I try and play from my library hangs it up, also the Task Manager now lists Winamp.exe 5 times, can I "end process" these without causing more problems?

Thanks,
TP

You can just kill Winamp by pressing 'End process', however settings will probably be lost.

Try a clean install of the latest version.
Close Winamp, reboot pc, uninstall Winamp, delete its folder. Then try installing Winamp again.

If it still doesn't let you delete the folder please post a HijackThis log (instructions under 'more info' link above).

Windows98 SE OEM - Compaq - PentiumII 300Mhz - 196MB RAM

I have the same problem with Windows Media Format Installer.

Also, after CTL-ALT-DEL to exit the install, and then upon shutdown or restart I get blue screened with Fatal Exception OE at 0028:C0031B13

If, before shutdown, I try to open Firefox 1.0.7, Firefox does not open but it does appear in the program window.

A hard shutdown clears the pipes but that install still hangs.

By the way, the connection progress bar will disappear before the install window greys and hangs.

Winamp Lite installs without any issues.

Question ... If all windows media file types are deselected, will the install still call Windows Media Format Installer?

UPDATE After posting the log below (next post) I did a selected start up dissabling all items and was able to continue the install after the Windows Media Format Installer download timed out. Winamp loaded just fine. I just don't know yet if those codecs aren't in. Any way to check?

If you experience problems with WMA/WMV playback, you could download and install the codecs separately:
