Encoder Settings Below 24kbps

I've searched the forums without success concerning this issue.

We broadcast spoken word (no music) using ShoutCast.

Everything works fine with our current configuration however we could broadcast our stream at a bitrate that is at below the lowest available default setting without a substantial difference to our listeners.

In theory, doing that should allow us to add more simultaneous users and/or will reduce our monthly bandwidth usage.

My old "Total Recorder" program would allow us drop recording settings down to as low as 8khz, 8bit, mono. I don't know that we want to go quite that low, but is there a solution to add lower bitrate settings or a different encoder to Shoutcast?

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

It looks like the DSP only supports down to 24k, 22050 mono. I even made changed to plugins/dsp_sc.ini and made it 8 bit, 8000 mono and made the file read only. The DSP will downcoded only to 24k, 22050 mono.

So that as low as it will go, its not the output plugin, it is a limitation in the shoutcast DSP (DNAS)

You can use the older DSP, though.

Will I need to "uninstall" the newer DSP first?

I hate to screw up something that does already work.

yes :) but all the DSP is a DLL and some ini files

at this point it cant hurt more than it all ready does.

Thanks for all the assistance.

Does anyone have a link to FAQ's and help files for DSP 1.80?

I'm feeling my way around in coming up with the correct settings to get live streaming through the Audio-In jack of my sound card with 1.80

It makes you appreciate how seamless the 1.9x configuration is.

The setup should be the same as 1.9x, soundcard mode and adjust your soundcard mixer accordingly. check out http://www.streamsolutions.co.uk , and look at their tutorials DECKS/Mics
