Main Window problem
Ok... I've been searching thru the forum and have attempted all the fixes but nothing seems to be helping at all. Here's the problem...
Whenever I open Winamp either by double clicking on a song file or by opening the program directly, the Equalizer and the Playlist will appear but the Main Window will not even thou it's checked in the options list. I do not have the Media Library turned on at all... don't like using it... Am using the classic skin. The only way it will appear is if I click on the icon in the taskbar. I am running on a 1.3gHz system using Windows 98se... now here is what I've attempted to do so far... Edited the winamp.ini as posted in other threads... no luck Downloaded the gen_ml_fix.dll... no luck Installed version 5.22... no luck Uninstalled and did a clean reinstall after removing all traces of the program and folder it occupied... no luck I'm using the maximum screen size I can at 1280x1024 and do not believe the window to be hiding anywhere. I have a feeling there's a registry key somewhere that is causing the problem. I'm a pretty advanced computer user and can usually solve this kinda of thing myself but this one has got me stumped. Any comments/suggestions? I've been searching thru the forum for answers and have tried all suggested fixes and nothing. Any help would be appreciated! -=> Satyr! <=- |
Yo Lrd,
I don't really know what I am doing but I think that I have had the same prob as you (and I have gotten Winamp (main window) to work). What seems to have worked was updating my install of Sun Java (but read all below before you try). COMMENTS: 1. I am running Winamp on Sony VAIO laptop 1.6ghz 2. WinXP sp2 3. I could play media through winExplorer (double click) and could start Winamp but no WA Main Window. I had access to Main Window controls (via right click) through the toolbar (you might try this). 4. Problem ONLY OCCURED in Winamp MODERN Skins. Ran fine in CLASSIC skins. 5. Updated to latest Winamp (5.22) - problem persists Clue - after upgrade & upon closing Winamp got the following error (big red box): Script failure. Press Left mouse button to continue. Guru meditation #0021.0000088.11 Script failure Error scripts/beatvisualization.maki What I did: I upgraded my (Sun) java to current version (I think Java 5 version 6). Of note 1. I have been trying for some time to update my Java and have had lots of trouble (broken updates) - finally succeded by disabling Norton Antivirus (good idea anyway). 2. I can't imagine that Winamp would require you to use (Sun) java (if indeed that has anything to do with problem). You might check to see if you have it installed, though. 3. More likely - if java DOES have something to do with prob, Winamp is using MS Java VM (but why?), or activescript, etc. 4. If you don't have Sun Java installed, I would seriously suggest don't fool with it - your problem is elsewhere - maybe try updating MS's version It would be nice if someone who knows what they are talking about could comment on some of this stuff. I have a feeling it might just be coincidence. - good luck! || bamm || |
