Videos Skip to every other video.
Lets say i have video 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc... for some reason when i am playing those videos, it goes like this 1,3,5,7,9, etc... what is going on and how can i fix it. When i play music, it doesn't do that, but when i play the video clips, it does. Just to let you know, i have the Winamp 5.22. The videos play just fine in WMP 10

Umm... turn off shuffle.
Are these videos in the correct order in the playlist? Can you play thyem in the right order by selecting them manually? |
me too
I'm going through the exact same problem. It has nothing to do with the shuffle or playlist or file location or specific file . It will do the same thing with jump to file queues. it's only movie files, like mpg's and avi's. Mp3 will play straight through 1 after the other. But I just recently noticed that it's skipping ahead because of the end of the video. if you put 3 mpg and 3 mp3's in a row it will play 1,3,5,6. but if you play 2 first it will go 2,4,5,6. To add any other afflicting info other than going to 5.22 is that i switched from ace's mega codec pack to the last k-lite pack.

same problem here...
Found a thread dating back to 2004 stating the same problem. I'm running 5.22.

pin-pointed the problem
I know exactly how this is happening now, I just don't know what to do about it. It's only on mpg's and mpeg's. Avi's play just fine. It's when the video ends that it skips ahead exactly one track. If i hit track forward it goes to the next one like normal. I'm on 5.23 now and there's no difference in this problem.

I have the identical problem on both machines - a laptop & desktop. Both are also running W2K, and I have installed the K-Lite codec pack.

completely delete 5.23 or whatever winamp you have right now, then redownload 5.23, if that doesn't work, try completely deleting 5.23, then redownload a previous winamp that you didn't have trouble with, then redownload 5.23 and see if that works. Thats what i did, and i no longer have trouble with my winamp.

That sounds like a hack. What's the real solution to this nonsense.

Even more information
I just tried what he was talking about, deleting and going back. I found 2 things, they still work in version 3. When I went to 5.0 - My very original version - The problem was actually there and never was before. So this is something that isn't getting uninstalled or held in the winamp folder (for I completely deleted it.) It sounds like a registry error from hell and I don't know how to read registry values. Onix you seem to be having the EXACT same problem, tell me if you can fast forward your mpg's without error. What happens with mine is I drag the progress bar to the middle it stays for a second, then restarts at the beginning as the counter restarts, but the video remains fast forwarded to that spot. I can't stress enough that this is specifically Winamp glitching on my MPEG's and MPG's ONLY. The problem is proven to not be affected by the version either. I'm switching codec packs tomorrow night, and the only thing else i can think of is that I use Spybot and sometimes winamp comes up in the infections list, if I repair it the only thing that happens is that my skin resets. But it's been like that for over a year now and this problem just came around 2-3 months ago. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP, LOSING HAIR!

Demongremlin: Your problems are duplicated exactly. I verified the codecs on my files using GSpot and found this problem did not occur on AVI/DivX/xVid files, and definitely on MPEG/MPG's. I also have the same scroll bar issue but that doesn't annoy me as much.
Historically I have had various problems with WinAmp playing videos and have had to keep WMP around for backup. |
Alright I have found the solution
Like I said I was changing codecs, and therein lied my problem and probably Onix's as well. As I uninstalled the K-lite pack it told of 3 direct show filter/codecs being broken, I restarted and winamp is back to great working condition, explaining why the previous winamps screwed up as well. I also found out Winamp works fine codec free, but i also use codecs for other programs and found a simple pack called The-codecs 3.0. It doesn't interfere with winamp at all, and I think it improved a little. I'm kicking myself cause I had the premonition of this since my first post.
