what error! the need to use
Quote:

http://ip:port
not jus ip:port, because the browsers dont know that http is running on port 8000, so your MUST type http in the address

this include winamp, windows media player, real player etc you MUST include http if your stream is not using port 80 (www service)

1. open dos and type ipconfig.

2. Write down the IP address

3. Open IE and type: http://IP_Address:8000 , where the IP_Address is the number that does told you.

4. Alternatively, from the server, try http://127.0.0.1:8000

I'm going to assume that you can ping your winxp from your win98 box. If you haven't tried start with that. It would suck to spend time troubleshooting an application when the problem is on the network. Do you by any chance happen to have the windows xp firewall (or any other personal firewalls) enabled? If you do disable the fw and try again
