Vie 23rd June 2006 20:14

Would get old quickly, but yes its neat, would be fun to play around with.

I thought the whole point of a computer is that it isn't messy?

Psythik 23rd June 2006 20:29

I'm not going to even comment on this:

A computer can be messy though. "Organising" files in a window manager is not very naturalistic. This gives you as much control over organisation in a more natural way.

I think it looks great. It's obviously got too many features because it's a proof of concept, but it could be very cool if taken further.

What is Vista's 3D desktop going to look like? Is it going to be anything like this?

zootm 24th June 2006 17:04

It's just 3D-accelerated, like the OSX one. Better effects and so on. There's a 3D app switcher though.

WPF, the new desktop API thing, can intermix 3D and 2D elements, so I suppose it'd be possible to make something like this with it?

sgtfuzzbubble011 24th June 2006 19:28

Neat, but I'd have little use for it.

I think it's cool, but it's still kind of a gimmick. I can't see that thing ever saving me time. Here is an image of My desktop with Winamp.

This is kind of neat. I played around with it on a livecd earlier this year.

While it may not improve productivity, it certainly does look funky.

k_rock923 25th June 2006 01:29

oh yea, atmo. I've used that livecd. It was a lot of fun, although it sure did eat up resources.

is LiveCD anythign like the 3d desktop that lets you move windows around a "sphere"? I tried osmething like that, SphereXP or something if I remember correctly, and I didn't like it much. It was fun for about 30 seconds, but after I started winamp, it got messed up because I had always on top enabled.

But I like having a 2D desktop. It's the reason my stuff isn't piled into useless messes like my real room.

LiveCD is a term for an operating system that works from a bootable CD without installation.

It's a document-orientated interface designed specifically for pen-based devices. On those sort of devices, it might well save you time ;)
