The latest addition to the A model of the 1900 Series computer is this 2101 card reader which has a vacuum instead of a mechanical feed. As a result, it can handle 1600 cards a minute 700 more than its predecessor.
Wow. I guess I must need a card-reader upgrade.

I am suddenly reminded of an old quote from an old owner of a well-known company. "64K should be enough for anybody."

What about the infamous "The world only needs 5 computers" remark from IBM.

k_rock923 24th June 2006 23:59

I thought of that one. I couldn't find the exact wording for it though.

Although Watson is well known for his alleged 1943 statement: "I think there is a world market for maybe five computers," there is no evidence he ever made it. The author Kevin Maney tried to find the origin of the quote, but has been unable to locate any speeches or documents of Watson's that contain this, nor are the words present in any contemporary articles about IBM.
