Problems making playlists in Winamp

I'm trying to make some playlists in Winamp and I'm having some problems. The first way of making a playlist I've tried is through the media library, by simply creating the playlist under the Playlists section on the left, and dragging files to it. The problem I've encountered here is that when I view the playlist, then go back to my Local Media and drag more things to it, all the original contents are replaced by the new additions.

So, I tried making a playlist through the playlist editor. The problem here is that I drag a song to it, then in deciding what song to put in next, I want to listen to potential songs. But as soon as I play a song from my local media, Winamp automatically adds my entire library to the playlist I was working on.

Anybody have any advice on how to solve or avoid these issues? Thanks!

Hi,

first make sure you're running the latest version of Winamp: 5.24. The first issue you described sounds like a bug in 5.22 that was fixed in 5.23.

As for the second issue, try unchecking this option:
Prefs (Ctrl+P) > Media Library > tab Library Options > 'Play all search results (start with selected) on double click in media views'

When that option is not checked, only the selected file will be added to the playlist editor (be sure to enqueue; play will replace your current playlist).

I'm running 5.23. I just haven't gotten around to upgrading to 5.24 yet, but it sounds like the bug should be fixed in this version...

I did what you said on the second problem, but it still replaces my playlist with whatever song I chose to play.

I'm just curious, how does everyone else make playlists? There has to be a better way...

From 5.23/5.24 released thread:
Quote:

9th June: A bug has been found where using "Send To > Any stored ML Playlist" replaces files instead of enqueing them. A fixed ml_playlists.dll is available here

The installers have now been silently updated to include the above fix.
Perhaps you installed 5.23 just before that fix was implemented.

As for the second problem, did you indeed select enqueue (and not play)?
Right-click a file in the Local Media view > Enqueue.
Or set the double-click action to be Enqueue (same prefs page as mentioned above).

No, I selected play (double-click for me). I want to be able to listen to songs while I decide wether or not to add them to a playlist. I'll try that patch though, thanks.

Hmmm. Maybe try the Dynamic Library plugin? You can Enqueue and Play with that. Won't overwrite what you have, and you can listen to it at the same time.
See my attached screenshot - dl-enqueue-and-play.png

You can't play a file without adding it to the current playlist. That's why I suggested to enqueue it (i.e. add it to the current playlist), then play it and then decide if you want to keep it in the playlist or not.

DL may be a bit far-fetched in this case, but it will at least combine the enqueue and play actions into one 'Enqueue & Play' action. Do note that it has an interface on its own, independent from the Media Library. But maybe you like it.

But the easiest way is probably to use the current playlist to play songs, and if you like the song add the file to the respective ML playlist by right-clicking > Send to > ML playlist.

That's a good idea, siebe83. I'll try that.

Looks like 5.24 solved the problem. I must have gotten the first release of 5.23 that didn't have the fix yet. Thanks for all the thoughts guys.
