iRiver Clix

anyone have one? I want one.

S-uper_T-oast 31st August 2006 02:45

Holy fricking awesome. That thing rocks. It's rather tiny!

Too-DAMN-Much 31st August 2006 03:07

i'd rather have one of these the MobiBlu cube

dlinkwit27 31st August 2006 03:40

no ogg support = no customer here.

Too-DAMN-Much 31st August 2006 03:48

feh, i never use .ogg's

zootm 31st August 2006 08:54

I have a 2GB iRiver U10, which is basically the same as the Clix (I think the Clix has an updated user interface, with album art support and stuff, but the hardware is more-or-less identical), and it is completely awesome

dlinkwit27 31st August 2006 13:44

Good deal. I got a 60 dollar gift certificate for Best Buy that I am looking to burn, and my ifp-890 (256 mb) just isnt cutting it anymore. Works fine, no damage, just not enough space.

zootm 31st August 2006 14:27

The only problem with the U10/Clix is that the software to move music onto it (and have it appear in the library, at least in the USB Mass Storage version of the player) is just rubbish. It's not terrible, just ugly and slow.

The presence of iriverter to automatically convert videos for use on the player makes it all worthwhile though :)

I assume you are talking about iriver plus 2. I've never had to use it yet, not even for my sisters 1gb flash player, because I misticriver.net has a good forums taht give you ways to "hack" the player or alternative software solutions. Some of them void the warenty, but oh well.

When is someone gonna release a terabyte portable media player (with FLAC support), damnit!

dlinkwit27 31st August 2006 21:27

why would you want to watch a movie on a screel that small?

At the bitrate it takes them at, two or three. It's more handy for music though.

2GB is more than enough for most needs. If you want a higher-capacity player that can play video, the iPod Video has that market cornered, which is a pity since it doesn't support things like FLAC or Vorbis.

Mr Jones 1st September 2006 08:24

You could probably still pick up a high capacity iriver like the h320/h340 that has plenty of space for video playback.

It's still not much fun watching video on a small screen, but it can help pass the occasional boring train journey when needed.

Too-DAMN-Much 2nd September 2006 00:27

quite right, my cell phone while miniscule in size, seems to do "Tetris" just enough justice while i'm waiting for the drive between here and the rest of civilization (beaverton in this case) to end.

Bilbo Baggins 2nd September 2006 22:12

I use my cellphone on trains to send crap via bluetooth. Goatsecx is universal in its reaction.

Too-DAMN-Much 5th September 2006 03:20

heh, i tried sending this one pic where i spelled out "SMOKE THIS!" in cigarette butts, but there's never any bluetooth pplz in range...

zootm 5th September 2006 10:28

There's always Bluetooth people in range around here. I know the button to refuse a connection offhand so that I can hit it without taking my mobile out of my pocket...
