Winamp does not play
When attempting to play a song, my player reads through all songs in the playlist or library (none are played, you can just see the song titles quickly displayed on the player creen).
It reads though (and plays none) the songs until it stops on the last song of the library or playlist. The last song also does not play. What is wrong and how do I fix this error? I cannot listen to any of my music????? Thanks |
A playlist is only a text file that contains pointers to the location of the music file(s). If Winamp skips over your song(s), this usually means that the entry/entries in the playlist for that song/those songs is/are no longer valid...
1. The file(s) may have been moved, in which case you'll have to remove the bad entry/entries in the playlist and re-add the file(s) back into the playlist, so that the playlist now points to the correct location of the file(s). 2. The file(s) may have been renamed, in which case you'll have to remove the incorrectly named entry/entries in the playlist and re-add the correctly named file(s) back into the playlist, so that the playlist now points to the renamed file(s). An easy way to check if an entry in the playlist no longer points to the actual file is to right-click on a media file in the playlist and select View file info... If all the fields are filled in properly, the file is being correctly pointed to in the playlist, and exists at the location indicated in the Filename field, and that file will not be 'skipped' over in the playlist and will in fact play. If all the fields are grayed-out, the file is NOT being correctly pointed to in the playlist, and does NOT exist at the location indicated in the Filename field, and that file will be 'skipped' over in the playlist and will not play, in which case the problem is probably either #1 or #2 that I listed above. |
I just reread your post and spotted this (highlighted in red below)...
Quote:
Click the 'Library' button in the bottom-left corner of the Media Library. Select 'Remove missing files from Media Library...' The above action will remove every 'invalid' entry. Then you can repeat the procedure (Click the 'Library' button), and select 'Add Media to Library...', in which case, Winamp will locate files that do exist, and you can then recreate 'valid' playlists, once the actual media files are added to your Media Library. |
