MetaInterval

Hey,

I recently downloaded both the Windows and Linux DNAS's (v1.9.7). On comparing the config files, I noticed:

Quote:

***** sc_serv.ini ****** (Windows)
; MetaInterval specifies how often, in bytes, metadata sent.
; You should really leave this at the default of 8192, but the option is
; provided anyway.
MetaInterval=8192
************************

***** sc_serv.conf ***** (Linux)
; MetaInterval specifies how often, in bytes, metadata sent.
;You should really leave this at the default of 8192, but the option is
; provided anyway.
MetaInterval=32768
************************
Any idea why the Linux MetaInterval is set to 32768 by default?

Thanks,
rg.

No idea.

However, I've seen some bad implimentations of SHOUTcast players choke on a setting other than 8192, because they assume that the metadata will be sent every 8192 whatever the server is actually doing.

I've changed the setting as well with little drama. When it works right, it determines how fast the player will get the stream and track title upon connect, and how quickly the track title will change. Obviously this "time" is related to bitrate -- for a high rate stream, 8192 bytes can be less than a second, while for a low bitrate stream it could be seconds.
