New to Winamp 5 - Few Questions
So I recently switched from iTunes to Winamp 5. I'm enjoying it so far, but theres a few questions I have regarding how Winamp handles files, tags, etc.
In iTunes, theres a group compilation feature, which allows for compilations to be grouped when using the browse feature (similar to winamps artist / album feature in Media Library). Is there any way to have compilations grouped in this view? I have quite a few comps, and with almost 700 artists things get cluttered (artists view with 1 song per artist etc.). If not, what are some tagging suggestions to keep things organized? Also, for playlists, I'm used to putting new music from my collection in to a playlist, and still being able to sort it by album, artist, etc. I'd like to be able to make a playlist, say, September 06, and put all my new music from that month in to the playlist, and select an album or particular artist. Is there any way to use the Media Library browse feature in a playlist? Thanks for any suggestions and tips. |
for your second question. i beleive if you right click local media in media library (in left column) > add smart view > click plus> last updated > the surround the time you want. with after 9/1/2006 and before 9/30/2006. hope it works.
you can change media views to be simple, or artist album view when you create them. |
in regards to your your first question,
how do you have your music arranged on your hard drive? Because the way i do it is i have an overall albums folder, then a compilations folder within that. (you might have to manually do it since itunes arranges all those songs by artist then album doesn't it?) then i make a new smart view with filename -begins with- {the path to that compilations folder e.g. C:\Music\Albums\Compilations\} Hope that works for you |
filename begins with (enter folder name here) doesn't and shouldn't work unless you have actual media files with the same name of the folder they're in.
This functionality should be in ml_playlists but then again here comes the "well its an iTunes feature so if you want that feature use iTunes" arguement... We should tread carefully as to what gets added as far as any "iTunes compatibility" is concerned. I wouldn't want Apple to come down on us and on Nullsoft about this. It wouldn't be good. |
Quote:
{filename begins "C:\Music\Albums\Compilations\"} None of the media files within them have any names remotely similar e.g. "C:\Music\Albums\Compilations\Lost In Translation\12 Air - Alone In Kyoto.mp3" That query works in both search queries and smart views |
As a workaround, I made a new smart view and updated tags on the files. I put a comment in all the files, simply "Compilation". Smart view with "Contains Compilation" and voila, they aren't in the list. Only problem, is when I'm in this view, and I'm browsing artists that do have albums / compilation tracks.
All the comps are in a "Compilation" folder and titled Track Number Song Name.mp3 ... Ripped everything with iTunes a few years back. Only other complaint is play count ticks. Wish they'd work as iTunes, where the song counts after it has been played, not when its opened. |
