Website videos in Firefox 1.5.0.7 launching in Winamp

Hi,

When I try to play a video on a website using Firefox, Firefox downloads the video and opens it in Winamp.

How can I get Firefox to play the video itself without launching an external player?

I "googled" the problem and found some advice on Mozilla forums and followed the instructions to check the plugins and codecs which appear fine.

I have checked the download actions settings and all video files (except mpeg which isn't listed) are setup to "Opens with Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library".

I have just tried a clean install of Firefox which has not resolved the problem. (I backed up my profile using FEBE and uninstalled Firefox and deleted any remaining files in the application and profile folders before reinstalling Firefox without any configuration changes or extensions installed).

Video files saved locally to the PC open normally in Winamp without any problems.

I have disabled all file associations and Winamp Agent in Winamp but now when I launch a video in Firefox, the video launches in Windows Media Player 10.

It apppears that whenever I open a video in Firefox the video is launching in the Windows default player for that file type.

I would like to be able to play website-based videos in Firefox and videos on my hard disk in Winamp or Media Player.

I have noticed that this happens with WMV and MPEG videos and possibly AVI videos as well.

Any advice would be appriciated.

Thanks & regards,

Steve.

Sorry forgot to mention - have been through various things with Firefox on other forums - just wondering if the problem is related to Winamp - Thanks.

You said yourself that when you unassociate Winamp from said filetypes that WMP10 opens instead, which kinda proves that it's not Winamp-specific.

What video formats are they exactly? What is the actual file type/extension?

The only relevant settings are:
Firefox > Tools > Options > Downloads > View & Edit Actions
Select the relevant File Type and click 'Change Action'
If 'use this plugin' is already selected in there, instead of 'use default app', then it suggests that there's a problem with said plugin.

To fix problems with Firefox plugins you need to reinstall the plugin or the application which provides the plugin, be it WMP, VLC, QuickTime Alternative, etc.
