Ads in Pro???

Ads in Pro???

I just laid out $20 to get WinAmp Pro, expecting it to be a Pro package as the usage has become generally accepted: enhanced capabilities and NO ADS!!!

If ads are part of what one gets with Pro, please tell me wheere I go to get my money back. Calling an ap that's burdened with ads "Pro" is absurd!!!

what ads?

going pro has nothing to do with ads, we don't even support ads.

anything in shoutcast TV and or in2TV is beyond our(or even nullsofts control) this is not part of the main player, but a service provided by aol.

what your paying for is the ability to encode aac+ and mp3 and have a faster ripping/burning speed.

the money you paid covers our licensing fees for those formats.

If you buy the Pro version, you pay for faster burning/ripping and encoding to mp3 format. This is clearly advertised at the www.winamp.com/player page.

As for a refund, you would need to contact the company that does the selling of the Pro version. We on the forums can't help you with that.

Heh, I'm slow...

 "Pro," throughout the software industry, is understood to eliminate ads from a downloadable ap that carries them in the free version. Apparently some of the content I'm seeing in WinAmp is from AOL Music, and that's what's carrying the ads. Is there any way I can block that content?

not using the online media more specifically the video based formats is the best way to avoid the ads.

Take a look at the main site, there you can see, what you get for paying Pro:

Rip to HE-AAC at >128k bitrate!
Burn CDs Faster - Up to 48x!
Faster, Unlimited Ripping - Up to 48x!

When I make software, I can make any kind of licence, there are no rules, which features a Pro version must have. Winamp is freeware, online service produces traffic, traffic is expensive so the ads are needed to provide this service.

As I asked, is there any way I can block the AOL content?

For sure, but nobody will give you an awnser in an AOL hosted forum, use the search, there you can find some clues, to remove the ads.

What do you mean by 'AOL content' specifically?
Some of the Online Services are powered by AOL. You can totally uninstall the Online Services part (Prefs > Plug-ins > Media Library), but then you will also lose the SHOUTcast Radio and TV listings.

you can also uncheck that content from the online services root node.
