How to achieve best sound quality/volume?

Hello folks,

I've been wondering what's the best thing to do in order to achieve the best sound qual. To raise the volume in winamp (got a soundblaster audigy 2 ZS) or on my headphones (sennheiser), or some combination of both options.

Does the sound quality worsen when you raise the volume
1) in winamp?
2) of the headphones?

What's best to lower/raise?

Winamp volume should be at maximum.

Soundcard volume should be as high as possible before clipping occurs (this can vary based on both your soundcard and your speakers, so it's tough to give you guidelines). Speakers should be turned down low

Ok, yea I've always had that setting. But I noticed that somehow I get some more "bass" when I turn up the volume on the speaker. As I don't want it to be too loud I make winamp point at 50% vol.

Should I lower the speaker vol instead?
