running shoutcast server in background (Windows)

I am trying to run Shoutcast server in the background on Windows XP.
I tried both versions (GUI and console)
However they both leave a window open in the current logged in console.

How can I run Shoutcast with no window open left ?

Is there a way to run Shoutcast as a system service ? or at least run it as local system account ?

Thanks

in console windows you can monitor your service (it isn't good?)

thanks for replies. however I couldn't find the solution yet.
I guess there must be a configuration option or command line parameter for this.
am I the only one who needs this ?

Here is one thread, but there is another that also helped me to get mine running as a service on win2000 server, but I'm having trouble locating it!

I should also add that the resource kit for XP is available for download from Microsoft, and should include the srvany.exc and instsrv.exe applications. Apparently srvany works as a wrapper to execute an application, and is called during boot. My server runs just fine without having the computer logged in, which is good for recovering from a power outage.

Hi,

I used srvany and instsrv. They are really very useful.
Thank you.
I have another question. When I end the original process from task manager the service is not shown as stopped. That is normal as the service process is "srvany.exe" and that does not stop.
Is there a way to make the service down when the original process is ended ?

Also, I couldn't find the srvany.wri file anywhere. How can I obtain it ?

Thanks

I forget where I found it, but it should be in the resource kit somewhere. I'm using win2000 and I had to find the pieces not the whole resource kit.

srvany will always run once its installed as a service, its just wont run shoutcast is you shut that instance off.

no worries with linux :) you can run anything in the background. do'h..

Cheers
