General bug on iPod
I'm sure some of you know of this General iPod bug (iTunes or ml_ipod). Here goes the description
Basically, if you have an artist that has one album and also a few songs tagged albumless, than the albumless songs will be omitted in artist view. Upon clicking on the artist, you will be directly thrown into the album without being able to access the albumless songs. The only way to find them is by scrolling through the song view (which is terrible). I also know how most people have minimized this issue. Everyone says to just assign all those songs with a generic album name like "misc" or "unknown" or something. Or they actually look up what album every song is from and assign that. I HAVE MANY MANY SONGS and this would take a long time. Furthermore, this is NOT really a solution to the problem This bug has existed for a while and apple hasn't done anything with it. I was just curious if this is something that ml_ipod can fix or workaround. I understand that this is probably a firmware problem but I wanted to see if it could be tackled by ml_ipod. If it seems like the solution would be remotely complex, don't bother....I'd rather not waste people's time (makes me feel bad). |
This is an interesting bug. I've never noticed that, 'cause all my tracks have album data.
Apparently it only happens if you don't have songs from two different albums from one artist. Cause that's what I tried first: Both albums show up and a "All" submenu, which contains the none-album tracks, too. But if it's only one unique album, and the albumless songs, it's as you said. We could write a fake album name "-" for all tracks that don't have an album, when the database is written. That wouldn't affect any ID3 tags, only the iTunesDB. |
For a test, I did this in 2.00p10. Does it work?
|
In short, yes it did work. Thankyou very much.
All Albumless songs now appear to have a "-" for the Album while keeping the ID3 tags Unaffected by the change. I take it there is no way to truthfully fix the issue instead of trick/avoid it though? On a sidenote Abu, you have been doing alot of these little modifications to ml_ipod upon request or upon noticing bugs. Personally, I've never ever seen this much response and sincere care for everyone's individual needs on any plug-in/program. When you release the next official update to ml_ipod, what will happen to these little quirks you put into ml_ipod? An example would of course be the modification you just did to trick-out/avoid this bug in 2.00p10. |
You're right, a real fix is impossible. But the trick with "-" isn't too bad, right?
All these little quirks will make it into the next official release, don't worry. I only keep the patches on a different server because it is easier to upload something there than to release on SourceForge. But usually everything that is in the patches will go into the next release... |

Abu, this is the best thing to do until Apple gets with the program on the next firmware update. I'll be using this little "-" for sure. Its not as bad as trying to find/remember the omitted songs in song view (god that was a pain)

Thanks for these encouraging words! I definitely do appreciate that!!!
