play selected file through keyboard command

Is there a plug-in that allows me to play any song I want on my playlist through my keyboard? The reason I ask and want this plug-in is because I am a gamer and I listen to music while playing games, instead of always alt-tabbing out of the game and select the song I want to play, I want a plug-in that allows me to play "x" number of track on my playlist. Please if anyone know of a plug-in, I would love to have it.

with standard full installation you already what you need!
just enable and tune-up the global hotkeys in the preferences (go in Preferences -> General preferences -> Global hotkeys)

a nice addition could be Toaster plugins to receive a visual feedback (and some additional actions for global hotkeys)

idem for the ultra-useful DrO's Plugin Pack with some additional actions for global hotkeys

bye ;)

Hmm, those are neat plug-ins but not exactly what I'm looking for. Global hotkey has a hotkey that allows you to jump to track soandso, but it requires me to alt tab out of my game to type in the track number to play, that is exactly what I don't want to do.

I want something where I can just type on my hotkey that allows me to play a certain song.

For example, before there used to be a plug-in that allow me to type something like "winamp play file <filename>" and with the ending of 2 quotations will play that file. But the only downside is that it clears my playlist and searches the file in a destinated folder to play. I didn't like that. I want something similiar but searches the song in my playlist.

I just found (and tested) this method:
  • disable Disable always on top while fullscreen application are focused in Preferences -> General preferences
  • add a global hotkey in Global Hotkeys for the following action: Playback: Jump to box
  • activate Always on top features for the main Winamp window (or click ctrl+a)
  • minimize Winamp
  • switch to your full screen game and press the global hotkey just added
  • in popup window you can find the songs (from current playlist)

if you want to jump to a precise song (the Xth in the playlist) install Jump to track from DrO's Plugin Pack, follow the same procedure to add another global hotkey for Playback: Jump to track action

bye ;)

Still minimizes my game.

works right to me

anyway, some games\applications react in different ways when the focus is stealed

bye
