Link for WinXP ASPI ?
 

Windows XP doesn't have ASPI support for ripping CD's, there is a file you need to download and install.

My old computer #1 had that installed, and I ripped with that before. But I have moved now, and I only use one of my two computers now, the newer one, which I didn't install it. Does anyone have that link or know what I am talking about?

What do these drivers do exactly?

Lets you rip music digitally rather than only analog with your CD rom. WinXp is mysteriously missing these drivers for some reason ???

Last I checked I could rip my music digitally with my ripping program. You don't have the "Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device" in your CD-ROM properties?

Get aspi4.6 from there, it is the last good version.

I still don't get what ASPI does for your computer. Something about DAE and that's it? WTF? Doesn't EAC, WMP and other ripping software do the DAE?

Because 2k/XP has it's own interface known as SPTI.

For historical reasons CD control is in the form of SCSI(or SCSI-like) commands, and the ASPI layer provided a way of sending such commands to IDE devices.
For this reason Windows 9.x included a set of ASPI drivers with the install, Adaptec 4.6 was the last version in this series.

Microsoft now reason that as they provide SPTI for 2k/XP there is no longer any need to provide a seperate ASPI layer for these OSs. This is fine for anything Microsoft, but many of the more powerful burning programs still require a full ASPI layer to operate reliably*.

Adaptec's latest version is 4.71.2 and should be good for all OSs. v4.70 had a few problems IIRC and this led to v4.6 being recommended as the best one to use. This is no longer the case with v4.71.2 and it should be good for all OSs provided you pay close attention to the installation notes. The method varies depending on pre/post NT and 32/64bit.

* some, such as Nero provide their own, whilst some others don't use ASPI and provide the translation layer within the program itself.
