That's the default Winamp Modern skin with the Blues color theme.

thanks. i guess this is only a modern skin? if so, is there a similar classic skin available?

where can i find a description of the differences between classic and modern skin types.

also, it seems as though modern skins require more "horsepower". is this an accurate perception on my part?

There are several 'classic' versions of the default modern skin, never seen one in that particular colour however.

What do you mean differences?, basically a classic skin will always be the same shape/dimension as the next one, the buttons and sliders will always be in the same place.

A modern skin can be any shape/size the designer wants it to be, the buttons and sliders can be anywhere the designer wants, it can have additional functions that the classic format can't easily have, song notifiers, colour themes, additional windows specific to the skin etc etc.

Yes, they do take a little more CPU cycles than classic skin, but if you've bought a PC anywhere in the last few years you should have something that's capable of running them, I can even get them running on my ancient old win 98 laptop bought in 2000 without too much trouble.

You wouldn't, classic skins don't support colour themes, you would have to individually re-colour every bitmap by hand that makes up the classic skin to whatever colour you wanted, not a very easy task.

Try searching around on the net, I'm sure I've seen colour variations of that skin somewhere, just not on winamp.com

there's no such thing as a "classic skin editor"? or a way to export the bitmaps for editing?

Mr Jones 27th March 2007 10:57

yeah, just open the .wsz file , extract the bitmaps, edit in your favourite paint program and your done.

A .wsz is basically a renamed .zip file so it should open with more archive utilities, if not, just rename the .wsz to .zip and you'll be good to go.

However, it would be a lot easier if you just used the default modern skin, to be honest the default modern skin is about as lightweight as modern skins comes and was designed to be fairly easy to use no matter what your machine is.

Is there any reason why you wouldn't want to use it?

it doesn't "seem" as lightweight. if you are interested in more specific details i'll provide them tomorrow. i need to go to sleep right now.

thanks for your help.
