when it's ready (as is the norm) and does it really matter how long it was since the last release ;) (if it's too soon people moan and if it's too long people moan so it's a lose-lose situation whatever the case). plus the dev team are allowed to have some time off from coding...

@DrO
But now are some works with new version of Winamp? |
there's always work going on, just people don't see it until you get a new release or if a bug fix is refered to in a thread (as a number have since 5.35's release).

I too am having problems with poor performance playing videos. I experience the same symptoms. It gets worse the larger you increase the video size, and the worst is full screen. I also tried to disable Aero, and it helped slightly, but muy cpu still stays pegged (cpu0 100% cpu1 20-100%) i have 2 Opteron 2.2ghz CPUs, and a GeForce8800GTX. My computer performs as poorly as my old 266Mhz Laptop! I just happened to be perusing through the NVIDIA 163.11 Driver release notes and came across this under the Unsupported Features section:
The following are features and functionality that were available in driver releases supporting Windows XP, but are not available in driver releases for Windows Vista: ... • Video Overlays This is an operating system limitation. Vista window manager features will provide new ways of acomplishing overlays, but will require application porting. ... So it looks like microsoft has done it again, and just disabled overlays. They are probably marketing it as a "feature" too. So does anyone know how to get ovelay support back in windows, or if and when Winamp will be ported to work with "Vista window manager" -nferrin |
the playlist still locks the last played file preventing moving or editing it.

The link to download 5.35 (in the first message in this thread) is dead: it helpfully sends you to a page that lets you download 5.5. Is there any way to download 5.35 now?

Re: Winamp 5.35 Released

Have you had some management coup there? For the record: I've been using WinAmp since day 1. It's one of the apps I point to as free of f*** you. Til now. a) you sandbag Win98 users b) staff on the forum basically say "We can't be bothered with you) c) the download to revert to 5.35 brings up the 5.51 download page. I've reverted ... I'm no dummy: I always store apps' previous version installation ZIPs. But I gotta tell you: WinAmp is dead. I don't know who assassinated that good attitude, but apparently it's gone.gone.gone ... and we all lose from that. bdt |
Hmm, no, Winamp is well and truly alive and kicking.
Win9x is dead. Microsoft said so, not us :-/ We did plan to put a link in the popup error message for where you could download v5.24 (the last fully functional version under Win9x // note that some aspects don't even work on Win9x in v5.35, mainly CD Burning, Playback & CDDB - or at least not properly anyway, if at all). The main thing for 5.51 was that we prevented it from installing on Win9x first (like it did in 5.5). For now, all old versions are available here: http://www.winampheaven.net/old.php?major=5 http://www.filehippo.com/download_winamp/ http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=winamp |
