Need Expert Assistance Please
Hi, everybody I am new to these forums but have been using Winamp for years now. I need some help answering a question to a ongoing dillema I have with Winamp! I reformat allot and each and every time I reformat I loose my playlists in Winamp and all of my Music files are stored on My Areca 1231 ML Raid Controller Card wich is running 6 ~ 250gb Hitachi sata II drives in Raid 6. My question is this is there anyway that I can remove a file in Winamp from the file directory in :C that I can store in a folder on my Raid Array so that when I reformat my O.S drive and reinstall Winamp on :C I can just copy that particular folder from my Raid Array and paste it in the New Winamp folder on the O.S drive so this way it will restore my Playlist structure to the way it was before wiping the O.S? I am getting very tired of reinstalling all of my music every time bwecause it will import all music fine from my storage Array but its in the form of individual Music Files (songs) not as album folders like the way I prefer it!
Please somebody help me, I know I can figure it out eventually by trying each and every dll file or system folder but why when I can ask you gents and save myself allot of time? I know it can be done just like when you save game files and reinstall them in ther game after reformat to pick up where you left off instead of having top start from the beginning again. Also what is thje Verdict on running WINAMP from a non O.S drive? I generally do not do that with programs but this crap with the music playlists is driving me crazy and I'm anal that way and its pissing me off to no end! Do you fellas think that installing 4 running WINAMP from my Raid Array will be disasterous in long term use? Thanks guys.....BE |
Bump....for some help please!

It is perfectly fine to run Winamp on any drive you like. I run it everywhere from a USB drive. Why do you think it is a problem using programs from a non-OS partition? Winamp does put some stuff in the Windows folder. The Sonic rip and burn engine, some Windows Media stuff but that's about it. If you use those features just install Winamp over the copy on your RAID array and it will replace everything that's missing.
You can backup Winamp simply by coping the installation folder. I compress the folder everytime I change something about Winamp. There are actual backup here if you want to read them. |
Hey thanks, to answer you're question its Windows and I don't expect much from it and I have run software fine from non OS drives but its not a stand alone program because of all the web features and what not so its better to ask and be on the safe side because well you know it is my storage Array and thats one place I do not need to have any problems!
So to re ask have you run winamp long term without issue from directory other than :C for any length of time without issues? |
Yes. I have done it for a year and I have had no problems.

Right on, thanks bro!
