Ur! It abruptly!
I with even greater impatience shall wait for the final version!

DrO 9th September 2007 11:48

you just need to wait for the next beta (which shouldn't be that long from coming) or use the work around as suggested in my previous post

File type sniffing

Apologies if this has been posted, I didn't read the whole thread.

I have some cover art in PNG format but named as folder.jpg because Windows XP doesn't treat folder.png specially. (Fixed in Vista, I believe.) It works anyway because Windows uses the GDI+ library which sniffs the file to determine the format instead of looking at the extension. Winamp currently doesn't work with this. Here's how to sniff image files:

- GIF files start with "GIF8"
- JPEG (JFIF) start with 0xFF 0xDF 0xFF 0xE0, then a 2
byte length, then "JFIF" 0x00
- PNG start with 0x89 "PNG" 0x0d 0x0a 0x1a 0x0a
- BMP start with "BM"

Have you tried having both folder.jpg and folder.png?

Maxim 11th September 2007 09:53

Yeah, it works but it's annoying. Also, it turns out I have rather a lot of other album art in the wrong format (it *cough* came that way) quote apart from this deliberate PNG use.

Here's what I think is the salient point: WMP works the same way as Windows, and you wouldn't want people to find things "became broken" when they switched, would you?

One more: how about loading front.* ?

dkordik 11th September 2007 22:41

Will the Classic skins be able to have the album art window in the final release?

Will it be easy for skin developers to incorporate a winamp album art object into their skins? I can't wait to see what people do with that!

jmbattle 12th September 2007 01:34

I'm just waiting for someone to take advantage of the API's new Album Art functionality to write a plugin for Object Dock / Rocket Dock / SysStats...

Cheers,
James

Is this item from the wishlist addressed.

Play music files with fullscreen vis plugin, and fullscreen video files consecutively in same playlist.

Winamp plays my music video clips fine (only in classic skin - modern slows the playback too much) The downfall is it can't switch to vis in the video screen for audio only files.

Hey....
Now we are in the middle of "next week".. Two weeks since last beta release..
How is it going with the next beta (preview 3)? This week, or next week?

Anyway, keep up the good work.. Take the time you need ;)

martin.deimos 12th September 2007 11:48

egg has posted that in THIS week a new beta will be released, and it's worth to wait :)

TheUniqueTiger 12th September 2007 15:11

Looks like it'll be really good as I've heard this after long time, that too frequently in the past few days... "Its worth the wait!" Will someone break the suspense before the next beta?

DJ Egg 12th September 2007 15:32

Winamp Essentials Pack v5.36 Beta download link is broken. Can somebody fix it?

Thanks ;)

J_Darnley 12th September 2007 18:52

Nice little addition I just found:
http://users.telenet.be/darnley/imag...atf_update.png
I've never noticed it there before and I tinker with my ATF string all the time. Was it added in this version?

muzique:
The Essentials Pack download does work, I just tested it.

kafkef 12th September 2007 20:21

the modern skins (including the original winamp modern skin) hasn't work since i installed the beta. i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling winamp but it hasn't worked. is there a solution for this?

martin.deimos 12th September 2007 20:43

ensure you have downloaded winamp_full and installed modern skin support

kafkef 12th September 2007 21:30

i have once again uninstalled winamp, downloaded the full version of the beta and installed it with modern skin support and everything else and here's the result..

Yep, this is a known issue in certain locales (Sweden, Finland, Lithuania have been reported so far). The fix will be in the next beta, due out shortly.

kafkef 12th September 2007 21:44

Knock it off already, heard enough of that.
Times are changing, and so should your operating system.

You can change your regional settings meanwhile if you like.
Open run and type intl.cpl and press enter. There you can change standards and formats to the english ones or to whatever suits you best(Just stay away from the ones Benksi mentioned). WA should now look ok again!

DJ Egg - I opened up the preferences, and despite having run it previously, it says "Idle", and the scan button is available. So, I clicked it to re-scan, and it immediately said "Status: Error Initializing", and the button now reads "Pause". I went into Windows Firewall and added an exception for Winamp and tried again, with the same result. Is there a specific port that needs to be open at the hardware level?

/edit - And I've tried it with many songs, including different artists, genres, completely different decades, nothing has returned any results.

I have exactly the same issue. First with Build 1500 and now with build 1504:( Too bad it sounds like a great feature.
