No you don't, Winamp handles iPods just as well as (if not better than) iTunes.

ojeez 7th September 2007 02:10

Don't i have to go out of my way to accomplish ipod/winamp compatibility though?

No. The Winamp Media Library handles iPod syncing.

How do you figure that one of the most downloaded programs in internet history is "awfully unheard of"?

THREAD OF TROLL

Mr Jones 7th September 2007 10:06

I miss the days of.. 'you are install number *insert some ludicrously high number' that used to show in the winamp installer.......

Unheard of, puh

ElChevelle 7th September 2007 11:14

How do you compare the two?
Winamp is a media player and iTunes is a music provider, correct?

Vie 7th September 2007 11:33

I thought iTunes was an instrument of torture?

Isn't it banned in the Geneva convention or something?

ElChevelle 7th September 2007 11:41

iThink iTunes iSucks.

I have a tremendous hatred of MP4's.

Well that's exactly what i felt like most people seem to prefer iTunes, i hate that slimy peace of junk though, doesn't do anything right.

I didn't know that our boy winamp was the most downloaded freeware program out there though, that's pretty cool.

Oh, WICKED SICK!

cooky560 7th September 2007 11:50

iTunes is a bloaty program with no features that eats RAM.
Winamp is a sleek featurefull program that uses little RAM. No contest :)

ASD5A 7th September 2007 13:54

itunes visualisations also suck therefore you can forget it.

I had a terible experience with iTunes. Have two computers. Put all my favorite songs on an 20gb one. Rated most of the stuff and added id3 tags to all of them. Then I plugged the iPod in on my other computer because this computer have more backup space. Installed iTunes. opened it. Then it asked... "Do you wanna sync?" I though.. mmm.. great app. Will do everything for me.

HA

Was I wrong!

In synchronized my 18gb of music with my fresh installed iTunes library. iTunes removed all off the music from the ipod and synced the empty library onto the ipod. Hours and Hours of work. Gone.
WTF would anyone want to sync a empty library using the empty library as the prime spot.

So…. iTunes is for dumb people. If you can think for yourself then use something else. In iTunes you must always guess what will happen next. The apple is full of worms.

Haha, Steve Jobs heard of your plans and tried to stop you. Unfortunately, he's powerless when you remove the leach called "iTunes". :D

But seriously, what I think was happening is that when you install iTunes, it also comes with a process that runs in the background and forces the iPod to hook-up with iTunes, even if it's not running. Winamp doesn't seem to like it when mp3 players are connected with another program at the same time as itself...

froggyboy604 12th September 2007 00:48

I like Winamp since it's skinable. It's not a huge program that uses a lot of ram and cpu cycle or takes up alot of desktop space. Plus, winamp doesn't crashes much. Ther are tons of plugin like Shoutcast which allows people who are not experts at using a computer to be able to DJ on an online shoutcast radio station.

fc*uk 12th September 2007 01:39

hippies.

IamPissed187 14th September 2007 01:02

Mainly use iTunes cause of the play counter.

But I suppose that winamp does that too. Maybe I should upgrade from version 4.783.38193.31 or something.

I do occasionally use winamp to make a html generated playlist though, but I think itunes does that too.

:D

fc*uk 14th September 2007 01:04

and you made you first post in a winamp forum to bash winamp because .......

Vie 14th September 2007 01:30

He's a Masochist?

fc*uk 14th September 2007 01:31

without a doubt, he must be....

Vie 14th September 2007 01:33

Oh good, I must admit I do enjoy indulging Masochists... ..where did I put my riding crop?

fc*uk 14th September 2007 01:39

as long as you use it relentlessly.... its right over there, see in the corner. :D

Vie 14th September 2007 01:42

*Takes riding crop and puts on a flying helmet, sticking a stalk of wet cellery into the waistband of his boxers before giving chase."

Tally Ho!

IamPissed187 14th September 2007 17:17

I'm not bashing. Winamp >>>> iTunes. Used winamp until I got my iPod 2 or 3 years ago. But iTunes has the play counter and I'm inordinately fascinated in how many times I've listened to a song for some reason. :D If winamp had a play counter I'd worship it as my new god.

And this is my first post, but I've been reading the "Breaking News" forums since forever, though never had the nerve to post. Yeah, go me.

Anyway, what the hell are you guys talking about?

QOAL 14th September 2007 17:32

Commence Winamp worshipping!

Preference->Media Library->Local Media.
Then Tick "Enabled 'recently played' in media library"
Then you can just add Play count to your media library columns.
