5.5 crash

Clean install, first run (it was building the library) and I get this...

AppName: winamp.exe AppVer: 5.5.0.1640 ModName: in_mp3.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00012695

ps: I've uninstalled, restarted the PC, reinstalled and it always crashes when building the library.

Specs: IntelCore2 CPU 6600 2.40GHz, 4.00GB RAM, Xp Pro, 1tb int, 1tb ext.

Fangs78 11th October 2007 13:07

Ditto on that.

Someone suggested editing all ID3-tags on your library. Haven't tried it yet myself.

Xezzy 11th October 2007 14:59

I've got same problem. Dunno what to do o.0
code:
AppName: winamp.exe AppVer: 5.5.0.1640 ModName: in_mp3.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00012695

This in_mp3.dll is original, ive got very few new plugins, only for other formats playback.
Shit happens while adding files to library and I think it has something to do with id3 tags in my mp3s

-----after 5 minutes xD---

Ive managed to add 90% of my library, but still crashes on my 'compilations' album... hmm... Maybe it reads wrong 'album artist' tag or smth? I'll try find which mp3 make problems, wait :p

----another 5 minutes left---

Ok! Found it! Its a netlabel release, 'keep away from showbiz', and I cant eaven open it with winamp o.0 Same foobar and iTunes, but wmp is alright with it.

---

Ive tried to rewrite tags but it still doesnt work. Ive downloaed one track again (well, its free ;p), and it works! It looks like ive messed it up by myself... somehow... The only thing ive done to it was tagging with musicbrainz (picard) and adding artwork to id3tag with MP3 toys.
-----after 30 mins----
Ok i give up. xD Hopefuly it was only one album. Which is free lol.

Fangs78 11th October 2007 15:12

Fixed it:

Get a tagger and remove all comments from id3 tags...it fixed my problem.

listeruk 11th October 2007 16:05

Removed all comments - no change, still crashes.

It seems like every version I install always has some problems, but this one sucks.

Xezzy 11th October 2007 17:33

Try to remove artwork. Sometimes media files has like 20 artworks in it.

listeruk 12th October 2007 16:43

Well, checking 10,000 tracks for artwork may take some time.

If a track contains an unsupported feature, I would hope that Winamp would just skip it, instead of crashing.

Xezzy 13th October 2007 11:30

Check one and find if that is the case o.0 try add a part of ur library or just one album

Btw. any1 from winamp development is interested in this bug? I can send corrupted file, maybe some1 can tell whats the problem.

DJ Egg 13th October 2007 11:43

Information required when posting (ignore this and you WILL be ignored)

If you want any help, then plesae provide the required information.

If you think it's a bug, then provide us with a link to a sample file that crashes Winamp, so we can reproduce it and hopefully fix it for the next release.

Alright, I removed the tags (using mp3tag) from a folder that causes a crash and still Winamp crashes when scanning that folder, or even trying to play one of those files.

MPC, WMP and Foobar play them alright though, so the file isn't corrupt.

Xezzy 15th October 2007 13:08

Maybe its something to do with filepath, is that only one folder?

listeruk 15th October 2007 14:55

No, some other files and folders are the same; I can insert a 'good' track and it will play from that folder.

I fixed it by deleting the 100 or so tracks that wouldn't play from the music directory.

There didn't seem like there was any movement (or recognition)on this issue - though there have been plenty of other posts with the same issue.

DJ Egg 15th October 2007 15:44

yousendit.com appears to be down

Try mediafire.com or stashbox.org

We need that sample file.

listeruk 15th October 2007 16:50

http://www.mediafire.com/?azcinczzgjm

Actually, this file works now (I assumed it was this file, as it was the one listed when Winamp crashed.

As I said, I deleted the ones that Certainly caused a crash (about a 100). I suppose I'll wait until it happens again.

WinAmp 5.5 crashes on startup :(

1 Attachment(s)
I too am getting problems with WinAmp 5.5. It crashes as soon as I try to start it (well, after about 10 seconds, anyway, which is about the length of time it used to take to start up.

The only 'non-standard' thing about my WinAmp setup is that I have WinAmp installed on an external network-attached-storage drive. All the music is also on that same server, but in a different folder. However, this was the setup I've been using since v5.1 with no problems.

I can't tell what track (if any) is causing the problem, and I have 100GB of music, so it's going to be pretty hard to remove tags globally (but I'll do it if I have to, I guess).

Event Viewer shows the following:

Faulting application winamp.exe, version 5.5.0.1640, faulting module in_mp3.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00012695.

Below is all the information I can get about the system.

Can anyone help?

Rory

I experienced this same crash while adding folders to my library and tracked it down to 5 specific files (1 album) that had their "track number" tags set as:

1/5
2/5
3/5
4/5
5/5

I changed the "track number" tags to:

01
02
03
04
05

Then it worked fine and didn't crash when importing them.

Hope this helps.

DJ Egg 21st October 2007 05:30

If anyone's still getting any of the above similar crashes with in_mp3.dll, then:

1) Confirm whether it still happens after applying the in_mp3 update patch
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....=278538#update

2) If it still crashes, please provide us with a link to a sample mp3 file that crashes Winamp (how many more times do I need to say this?). No sample file, means no fix.

@raintheory
Hmm, interesting.
I can't reproduce it here, but I'll get it looked into.
Of course, providing a link to a sample file would have been nice...

DJ Egg,

Since I can't even get Winamp 5.5 to start up, I can't send a sample 'failing' MP3 file. I'll apply the in_mp3.dll fix and see if that helps (I assume it's self-explanatory how to install it?). Although there's no evidence that it's in_mp3.dll that's causing my problem anyway.

At least I've managed to downgrade to 5.35 again, so I guess I can remove all the plug-ins I previously added which may be causing the problem with 5.5, reinstall 5.5 and see what happens...

Rory

p.s. I really hope it's not the bug that raintheory suggests, since the vast majority of my 100GB od music has this track format... :(

senpai71 23rd October 2007 16:34

UPDATE: I re-installed Winamp 5.5 Pro on my NAS and it works. The only diference this time was that I had uninstalled all my previously-added 3rd-party plug-ins.

So there you go.

Now I'm just waiting for it to crash when playing a file (although since I've applied the in_mp3.dll patch, maybe that won't ever happen :)
