Bass problem

first of all i've search for an answer and i don't find it so understand i try it first!

...i have this problem: My bass isn't working at all...
I've have an 5.1 sound sistem, and with other music programs the bass works perfectly, but now i want to use Winamp because it's much more better.
..i've tried to put the equilizer in Full Bass, everything!, but nothing happends.

I have the last version avalible(the 5.5 free version),and Winamp detects I have an 5.1 sistem, the surround works perfectly, but no bass at all..

Waiting for your answer,

Tinchox

do you have the EQ running?
do you have DSP plugins running?
have you enabled surround in preferences --> playback

are you trying to play a 5.1 source file?(AC3 or DTS)

are you running third party plugins?

are you playing a track with bass?

Make sure your speakers are plugged in all the way too. If they arent all the way in the bass will go out.

...i've tested everything you tell me..
...but no bass at all...

I even have a bass test track, and there is no noise.
I really don´t know what to do,please tell me that you have another idea.

I don't know if you have solved your problem yet but
I had the same problem with no bass only when using Winamp on the AC97 in my PC. I finally found the solution (for me) in the thread:
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?postid=1314529

The message was:
>go to the output plugins area in winamp. (options/preferences)

>go to directsound select properties. (doubleclick)

>Choose the drop down menu on the first tab and change it >to AC97 audio codec. and also tick the box saying "allow >hardware acceleration"

In that menu I had two choices: "Primary Sound Device" and "C_Media Wave Device".

When I choose "Primary Sound Device" and checked "Allow hardware acceleration", then "Apply", "OK" and "Close" my subwoofer came to life!
I hope that solves it for you also!

I have tried all the ideas in this, and other, threads in the Winamp forums - none helped solve my problem (Vista 32bit with AC97 audio, but no bass in Winamp)

Finally, by accident, I came across this plugin

http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details/183408

"VL Sound for Vista"

Downloaded, installed, restarted Winamp - voila - perfect bass!

I had the same problem, when i reinstalled my Acer TravelMate 2400, which contains the same soundchip. After having installed the original drivers from the manufacturer this didn't solve the problem. I did a little on/off trial-and-error i actually ended up with a solution - inspired by this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=84730

In c:\windows\system32\drivers i found two files:

alcxhweq.dat
alcxinit.dat

I deleted those, rebooted, disabled the soundmanager equalizer and sat s/pdif-out to analog and digital. This seemed to have worked for me.

Sadly, neither of these worked - which is a shame as the "VL Sound for Vista" plug-in doesn't work for avi/mpeg etc - gives the error "The format is not supported" - then crashes winamp...

And you've tried everything suggested here?
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=66049

(be sure to also see the 'Vista' section)

Still no joy? Check the pc or motherboard manufacturer's site for updated onboard sound chip Vista drivers.
