MP3s Not Importing Into Library Correctly
Okay first off, Required info:
Motherboard: Asus P5N32-E SLI CPU/RAM: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600/1GB DDR2 Sound: Onboard SoundMAX HD Audio Video Card: ATi X1950 Pro 512MB OS: Windows XP SP2 DirectX Version: 9.0c Winamp Version: 5.51 Installation Type: Full Plugins: Only what comes with it (Literally just did a fresh OS install/Winamp) No Video Playback Issues No Error Messages So whats happening I think is related to how Winamp handles input plugins when importing files into the library. I like to use the FFDShow stuff for upsampling my MP3s to 24bit/96khz as well as other various tweaks. However when I have the Direct Show Decoder configured to handle MP3s (in_dshow.dll) by editing its configuration to say "MPG;MPEG;M2V;AVI;MP3;MP4;AAC" and then try to Import my MP3s to my library (Or tell it to rescan watch folders) It doesn't do so correctly. Even if I remove MP3 from the default mp3 decoder. What happens is it will add all my MP3s to the Video category instead of the Audio category. This will not work because it doesn't read MP3 tags here so its organized like garbage. The files will play fine, opening them from there or using the open file command. Changing the Direct Show/Default MP3 Decoder settings back to default, clearing the library, and THEN adding the MP3s will add them correctly to the library. I can then switch the configuration back and play everything fine. So am I going to have to switch configurations back and forth every time I want to add new files? Or is there a workaround? |
in_dshow is for video formats and doesn't support metadata,
so the only workaround is to use in_mp3 for .mp3 & .aac, not in_dshow. All formats associated with in_dshow will be seen as video in the media library (not sure, but I think maybe the one exception might be .wav) And make sure 'Allow 24bit' is checkmarked in Winamp -> Prefs -> Playback. |
ah yeah I forgot to mention I tried that, anyway Its not going to work out for me this way (not being able to force ffdshow) because of my over complicated sound setup so I ended up just going back to media monkey.
Thanks a lot for the help though. |
Fair enough. You have my deepest sympathy ;-)
