Notes:

1. Re: Different shell descriptions for different associated filetypes

You may need to change at least one associated filetype, either during the Setup section of the Installer or afterwards via "Winamp -> Prefs -> File Types" for these to take effect. In some cases, you might also need to refresh/reopen a folder to see the changes, or in some rare cases you might even need to restart Explorer.

Basically, instead of seeing "Winamp Media File" as the description for all associated file types, you should now be seeing descriptions such as "MPEG-4 Audio File Format" for .M4A files in Explorer folders, etc.

Vista users might still need to start Winamp via right-clicking the Winamp shortcut icon and selecting 'Run as administrator' for these settings to take effect via: Winamp -> Prefs -> File Types.

2. Re: [ml_disc] Added support for Data CD reading

This is still a 'work in progress' and should hopefully all be completed in time for the 5.53 Final release. The 'Copy' button/feature is non-functional in this build.

3. Re: New offline CD Info Editor

This uses the same dialog as the universal File Info Editor (for mp3, aac, ogg, flac, m4a, wma), so please do not report things like "the Format Info section is empty" as bugs.

The 'MusicID' tab will be hidden if 'Use MusicID' (CDDB) is unchecked in in_cdda config (Prefs -> Plugins -> Input), and the 'CD-Text' tab will be hidden if the Sonic CD Ripping/Burning Engine is not installed (as Sonic provides support for this feature).

4. Hidden undocumented feature

DWM thumbnail support for Modern skins on Windows Vista

In Vista, with Winamp closed, go to: Start->Run
Type: %appdata%\Winamp
Open winamp.ini
In the [Winamp] section, add: vista_thumbnail=1

Note, this will only work when Winamp is visible on the desktop, but not when it is minimized to the taskbar. A major hack/rewrite would be required to make it work for when Winamp is in a minimized state. But at least this is a start... :-)

Reporting Bugs:

Please report any issues with the beta in this thread only!
Make sure your report is complete, according to the sticky threads in Bug Reports, ie.
Clean install, no 3rd-party plugins, list of plugins, full step-by-step method of reproduction, relevant system specs, exact error messages, screenshots, which skin (one of Classic, Modern, or Bento only, or all three), links to sample files, etc.
If error reports, screenshots, sample files, etc are smaller than 200kb, then please attach them to your post here. Otherwise, please upload to one of stashbox.org, mediafire.com, or sendspace.com and post the url here (no rapidshare or imageshack or similar links please).
Note that incomplete/lame bug reports may be totally ignored.

Particular areas which need testing are:
  • Data CD reader (ml_disc)
  • New offline CD Info Editor (and related)
  • Associated File Type registration (especially on Vista)
  • Language Packs (translation & general functionality)
  • Check for any gen_ff/skinning bugs
  • Installer & Setup (check all sections)
  • Keyboard shortcut accelerators
__________________________________________________________________________

Known Bugs/Issues:

1. CD Ripping is broken in this build :-( (more info) *

2. 'Add' and 'Sel' button functions (and maybe others) in ML Playlists don't work *

3. The Lite version is broken due to missing nde.dll (more info) *

4. Accelerator keys are broken in Modern skin pledit winshade *

5. Anything listed in the Known Bugs thread without a red asterisk next to it.

* = fixed internally

__________________________________________________________________________

Updates & Extras:

Color Editor for 5.53 (full installer) | standalone .wac (upgrade, advanced users only)
If you were previously using the Color Editor for creating your own custom color themes,
you will need to install this updated coloreditor.wac to avoid an error in tataki.dll at Winamp startup.

5.53 Essentials Pack
Includes: Lite'n Winamp Preferences (gen_nopro) update.

Am I missing something or is In2TV still under online services?

DJ Egg 17th March 2008 22:40

It's not meant to be there on clean installs, and it's also no longer an option listed in the Video tab of the Online Services root view. But yeah, it might still initially be there on upgrades....

Juanus 17th March 2008 22:55

Ummmm, this was a clean install. I am absolutely sure of that. I even deleted the winamp folder.
Someone please confirm.

DJ Egg 17th March 2008 23:06

Maybe the serverside code for 5.53 hasn't been updated/uploaded yet...

Juanus 17th March 2008 23:20

acknowledged and accepted
Thank You

osmosis 17th March 2008 23:42

I get a tasty little crash in nscrt.dll on XP Home SP3 RC2 3311 when Winamp is starting but before it shows up on the screen (initial setup dialogs work, however). You guys might not care about this just yet since the service pack isn't finalized or released, but I thought I'd just give the heads up. Reverted to 5.52 and all is well again.

SadEye 18th March 2008 03:25

So bad!
can't be installed in win2003.:o

Benski 18th March 2008 03:35

@osmosis

Does it generate a crash report (c:\_crash.dmp) that you could pass along to me?

@SadEye

How far along does it get? Does it make it part of the way through the installer, or does it not even make it to the start of the installer?

pjn123 18th March 2008 06:59

Bento bug:

Browser
- The Media Monitor bar when closed shows the Play/download/rescan buttons on load... but when you open close it again its hidden(like it should I think)
- Media Monitor - Downloads mode... doesn't hide the Play button on close(like normal mode).

Ruramuq 18th March 2008 07:16

/////1. Re: Different shell descriptions for different associated filetypes
··
it seems that Jump to File /Shell Options is not changing these new improved shell filetypes.

osmosis 18th March 2008 07:48

Whoops, false alarm I think. Upon further inspection it loads correctly using the Bento base skin. The problem before was that I opted to use my current skin in the Setup dialog, the PLtab edit of Big Bento that I saved, and so that setting was stuck and it was the PLtab skin that was causing Winamp to crash via nscrt.dll repeatedly. Sorry for the confusion.

p.s. I can't wait 'til the Playlist tab is worked into the main tree for Bento :)

that's because the plugin which does that hasn't been updated to work with 5.53 (i've more pressing things to do than code for a media player for free nowadays) and i doubt i'll find the time to sort out anything for 5.53 Final.

I run this version on my dev machine also, so I don't think it's related to SP3

Yeah, alas, Lite'n (gen_nopro) is broken.
It's one of DrO's plugins... see his comments a few posts up.

Good memory Egg, indeed I have. :)
Well, I am pretty sure (checked) that I don't have any of these checked in the installer, yet, it is being installed...!

Markus.B 19th March 2008 09:52

I found a strange bug in Modern Skin

System:
- Windows XP Prof SP2
- Winamp 5.53.1898
- Modern Skin

I always use F3 to search my playlist.
When both the main window and the playlist editor are in normal mode I can click either one of them and press F3 to open the search window.

BUT.. when both windows are in windowshade mode (my favorite mode) and I click the playlist window F3 suddenly isn't working anymore. F3 still works in the windowshaded main window though.

This bug wasn't there in the previous version...

DJ Egg 19th March 2008 14:02

@Markus.B

Yup, F3 and J shortcut keys are broken for winshade pledit in all Modern skins (except for SUI skins like Bento). Hopefully we'll get this fixed for 5.53 Final. Thanks.

@YtseJam

Hmm, I'm not sure then. I'll need to look into this further...

@gleemonex

Does it crash with a clean install and no 3rd-party plugins?
Is this the official Vista sp1 released yesterday, or one of the beta/rc versions?

Logy 19th March 2008 14:05

i'm just confuse plus curiosity....
where the preferences for skin just like the shown in drO, in rumor mills thread... is it true or rumour only, or no implemented yet till final version!

any way thanks for new features... at last a new features description according to format in winamp, but when the different icons it will make a comeback as improved features....

do or do not, try not? - Yoda quote!

I think it would be easier to show the screenshot, rather than having to decipher what you said above?
No? ;)

Serpher 19th March 2008 20:03

Things to fix:

- Updating "Info about file" causes repeating of few seconds of the right now played song
- Polish translation is need to be correct (to much of text) in out_ds.dll in "Info about device" (I suggest scrollbar)
- Clicking on the "CD Stereo" image causes crash of Winamp (sometimes)

It's all for now.

MarcoI1 19th March 2008 21:10

When did exactly the version 5.53 as Final appears?!

I think you meant to say when WILL, and not when DID, since it hasn't happened yet. :)

Anyway, I already answered your same question when you asked it here, with my reply to you here.

So... there is no EXACT date. You'll have to just wait, same as everybody else. In other words...

It'll be ready when it's ready!

DrO 19th March 2008 21:20

@Logy: it's from a plugin i'd been working on/off for almost two years now but is unlikely to ever make it as a real plugin release now.
