playstation 3

In the main menu of Winamp, it states that it is possible to listen through the Playstation 3.

I would like to listen to Stickman Radio, but from the web site, using the PS3 browser, it is not possible to click onto the 'Listen to' link.

How can you use Winamp to listen to Stickman through the PS3?

thanks

I am pretty sure with the Playstation3 WINAMP Player the easiest way to play a SHOUTcast station is just entering in the stations IP & Port. The easiest way to find this out, is going to SHOUTcast.com and doing a physical find for the station. Once you find it, click Tune In and let it load and play in your browser. Once you do that, in the 'Playlist' of the WINAMP Player, right click on the station name and click "View File Info". A dialog will pop up with the stations stream info. Look through to find the stations IP and port, x.x.x.x:8000 - and use those numbers to listen through the PS3.

Do I first need to download winamp into the PS3?

When I try to download Winamp from the PS3 browser,
it states ->

Insert storage media at the save destination.

I try to save to the PS3 hard drive, and there is plenty of free space.

And, from the Shoutcast web site, when I click 'Tune In', it states->

Do you want to run the plugin?

clicking yes, it takes me to the popup where it would normally play, but it doesn't play.

From ny computer, I got the IP and port, as you directed me.

The IP takes me to a site, when I click listen to, it takes me to the error messages again.

Is there a Winamp plugin that needs to be downloaded to the PS3?

thanks again

Winamp works on Windows computers only, there is NO Winamp version for the PS3. If the PS3 browser does or does not support SHOUTcast streams is something you are probably better off asking Sony.

streaming mp3

I found out that Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii can handle Shockwave Flash Players that stream mp3 format audio.

The PS3 can not handle the stations IP and port, x.x.x.x:8000

It can only handle

http://x.x.x.x:80/station_name.mp3

Would Winamp be responsible for streaming their broadcasts in mp3 format?

Or would that be Shoutcast's task?

thanks

I just found out this info, the consoles would need a flash player, does Winamp have an embedded flash player that streams mp3?

BTW

Shoutcast for the PSP is insane.

It doesn't play all the stations as the official Shoutcast web site, but at least it has 80s, 80s Hair bands, Pirate Radio, and Stickman.

The Shoutcast Radio player is brand new for the PSP,
so when will there be a Player for the PS3?

It's gotta be in the works.

josegarciapc 31st July 2008 02:47

the URL was conventional

PS3 can handle

x.x.x.x:8000 / station name followed by mp3 extension

Tversity - Streaming Audio on the PS3

You can stream internet radio on the PS3
BUT it has to be done via a program installed
on a PC called "Tversity".

You can download the program from here theirwebsite below:

http://tversity.com/download/

Then follow the Quick Start Guide:

http://tversity.com/support/quickstart/

You will then be able to setup your favorite
Shoutcast Streams in TVersity interface on the pc
which will then allow you to be able to listen
via the Media server on the PS3.

(NOTE: you can also stream video and Audio
that resides on you pc to the PS3).

To access the media server you will need to make
sure that you PS3 can access your WiFi.
Also that you pc has Tversity started.

Then you just use the PS3 menu to navagate to
Audio, then select your pc media server and select
the sub menus to get the stream or audio you want.

Hope this helps.

I have been using this for about 8months and it works
great =) Just remember that the PS3 has to buffer the
Shoutcast stream before it plays and can take up to
a minute before it starts to play the stream =)

Happy listening!

I just want to make sure I'm clear on this since I don't own a PS3... In order to play streams you must have a computer running to get those streams?

Also what codecs will this play (mp3 only or aac+)?

SoLoRiZe 2nd August 2008 18:12

Greg_E,

Yes that is correct, the PS3 it's self does not have
any software that will play streaming audio.

But with "TVersity" installed on a PC it will allow
the PS3 to connect to the PC as a Media Server.
Therefore letting you stream audio / video from your
PC to the PS3.

As diagram below:

Shoutcast Station (Stream) --> PC (Transcodes) --> PS3

When you install Tversity it has Codec's bundled with it
that encode the Audio or Video to a format that the PS3
can play. It plays MP3 & AAC format streams.

Below is a snippet from the Tversity website:

Transcoding
-----------
MP4, FLV and many other formats can now be transcoded while downloaded, this is in contrast to previous version where these formats needed to be pre-downloaded.
Can now stream AAC/AACP radio stations (over HTTP) and if necessary transcode while streaming.

So in a nut shell yes it can play MP3 and AAC+ streams =)

You can read up more about it here:

Hope this all helps =)

Below is a ScreenCapture of Tversity,
(on the PC), showing the Internet Audio screen / setup.

Just to prove it does exist & work ;-)

Thanks. How did Sony get around this for the online film "rentals" that it is bringing out, or isn't the firmware for this out yet? They did this to compete with the Netflicks service that does the same on the Roku video player and soon the Xbox 360.

Would be nice if they would put in a native stream player since theyare trying to market this as an entertainment center.

SoLoRiZe 3rd August 2008 19:23

I am not sure about the firmware or film rental side
as I have not looked into it as of yet.

But yes it would be good if Sony had its own stream
player, I am sure someone out there could code one.

I have written streaming players for WinOS so if I can
do that as a self taught hobby programmer in Visual Basic then
I am sure a full time programmer who knows the PS3 architecture
can implement one (well you would hope they could LOL).

Fingers crossed one day soon they will surprise us
and release one =)

Like you said the PS3 is marketed as an entertainment centre,
so you would think that streaming audio and video was a must!?!

Greg_E 3rd August 2008 19:53

I might take owners to formally request the feature. If you do request a streaming audio/video player, please ask them to include aac+ as well as the other flavors of mpeg 4 encoding.

TVersity

Question?

In order to play TVersity on the PS3, and thus Shoutcast, the computer that has the TVersity running, has to be turned on?

The Playstation 3 can only play streaming audio from sites that stream flash based mp3 audio.

The PSP could not play any streaming audio until the new version update included Internet Audio, which is an embedded Shoutcast Player. It plays some, but not all Shoutcast broadcasts.

This embedded Shoutcast player is what is needed for the PS3.

SoLoRiZe 5th August 2008 17:29

josegarciapc,

Yes, that is correct you will need to have the PC
that has TVersity running on it turned ON.

Otherwise you will not be able to connect to any
streams, as you are using the PC's capability of hooking up to the stream.
Which then transcodes it into a format that
the PS3 can work with and therefore play.

It really is not the best way to do it as you have to
have the PC turned on as well as the PS3.

Rather than having dedicated software on the PS3
that can play a stream directly.

But at least with TVersity you can listen even though
you have to do it through your PC.

Hopefully sometime soon someone at Sony will code
some software for it, or a thirdparty has a crack
at coding one :)

Also it seems that flash based mp3 audio like "Virgin radio"
are the only way you can play directly from the PS3, which
is not ideal, plus who wants to be limited to just Virgin Radio?
I could not bring myself to listen to it as it is too
commercial. Therefore I had to find a way to hook up to
other stations and thats when I found Tveristy =)

Greg_E 5th August 2008 19:39

You might try the aac+v2 audio from Orban's flash stream:
http://www.orban.com/plugin/ top of the page or maybe this address:
http://www.opticodec.com/flash/ofp.html

I think the file is ofp.swf if you need to hit the file directly. Just use the view --> source in your browser for more details.
