Insignia Pilot causes winamp to crash

Have Insignia Pilot firmware NS-8V24 Ver 1.006
I use to be able to plug the player into Winamp Pro. After downloading 5.531 Winamp crashes after plugging the play int with the following error messages:

The Intruction at "0x7c9106c3" referenced memory at "0x774eef3a", the memory could not be "written"

followed by the message:

Runtime Error!

Which of the Winamp pmp_*.dll plugins are present?
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....161361#plugins

What's your Windows OS?
What other processes are concurrently running?
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....d=161361#specs

Is this your portable player?
http://www.insignia-*************/pc-...echnology.aspx

Is it in MTP (PlaysForSure) or MSC (USB Mass Storage Device) mode?
http://www.insignia-*************/t-M...iguration.aspx

If MTP/P4S mode, then what version of Windows Media Player is installed?

Yes the portable device you listed is the very one I have.

The error occurs when in MTP mode. When I change it to File/Folder mode (USB Drive) then Winamp sees it as a external drive.

I'm running Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service pack 2 on a P4 3GHz with 1.5GB RAM. I have auto-updates on so I should be current on fixes.

I haven't run Media Player in a long while (thanks Winamp) but the version is 11.0.5721.5230.
I have Direct X: 9.0c

I've uploaded the list of plug-ins.

I've been using Windows Explorer to manage my MP3 player but with the new version of Winamp I've begun fixing the tags on my MP3 and thought it would be a good time to begin using Winamp to synchronize the player.

Thanks for you help

As for other processes running... the major ones are
Norton virus/firewall provided from Yahoo ATT and NetNanny 5.6

I've attached the complete list of processes if you need it.

Thanks

I could do with also seeing your HijackThis log,
to see what other processes are running concurrently.
Maybe there's a conflict going on somewhere...

Assuming you're still running it in MTP mode,
does it still crash if you temporarily disable the other pmp plugins?

With Winamp closed, go to the Winamp\Plugins folder, create a new "Backup" subfolder in there, and then cut+paste these 3 files into it:

Nullsoft iPod Plug-in v0.72 [pmp_ipod.dll]
Nullsoft Creative NJB Plug-in v0.54 [pmp_njb.dll]
Nullsoft USB Device Plug-in v0.61 [pmp_usb.dll]

Note, you'll need this one to be present for MTP/P4S support:
Nullsoft PlaysForSure Plug-in v0.7 [pmp_p4s.dll]

(pmp_usb.dll is required for USB Drive mode support)

Though I've got a feeling that the crash might be occuring because WMP11 adds a background system process (wpdshserviceobj.dll - Windows Portable Device Shell Service Object) for detecting MTP (and other) devices - and this causes Winamp to crash when it tries to load the exact same libraries...

Here is the info from Hijack This.

I moved the dll's you listed to the backup folder. I then re-connect the player after starting Winamp and the same errors occurred.

Hmm, maybe it's this WMP11 process causing the conflicting instead...

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WMPNSCFG] C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\WMPNSCFG.exe

Apparently, it's not easy to disable

see reply: 11. James Dooley [MSFT]

If it still crashes then maybe there's some bug or incompatibilty issue going on with pmp_p4s - which probably needs looking into....

Sorry for the delay on this, I left my player at work... then there was the game tonight :)

Anyway... I ran the command line that was recommended, removed wmpnscfg from registry, and set the value in the registry that was listed. After rebooting I verified through HiJackThis that wmpnscfg was not listed... but unfortunately no luck with these changes... winamp still crashes.

I tried connecting the player to laptop running Winamp 5.5 and same version of Windows Media player and it worked fine. I had not made any changes for wmpnscfg on the laptop.

I appreciate the quick response you've had on this, if you come up with something I'll try it out.
