Winamp not finding files

This seems to have just happened overnight.

When I open a playlist, all the files are not found, and it just skips over them all rapidly. I right click and go "view file info" and it says the file doesn't exist. However all the files are there, and they can be played individually (manually opened). The file path is correct. I loaded new songs in, they work, then saved playlist, and opened it, and it doesn't work again.

I'm on XP... had this version for like 3 years... and didn't do anything overnight that should cause this problem.

Any idea?

Thanks

Well, you may say that you have not done anything "overnight" to cause this, but something's certainly changed. I think it's best (easiest) for me to quote myself from another thread here, instead of retyping everything...

Yeah... you probably moved or renamed the ones that do not play and your playlist is now pointing to "dead" locations for the actual files.

Remember... a playlist is nothing more than a text file that contains "pointers" to the actual physical location of the media files on your hard drive. If you move/change/rename any of the files in the playlist, then that part of the playlist is useless to you, and (what is likely happening in your case), Winamp just rapidly scrolls through those songs/media in the playlist, not playing anything (because the file is not found), and then merely indicates "end of playback" for that/those missing files.

So, locate the "missing" files and recreate the playlist and/or add them back into it.

OK. I glanced quickly through your initial post and didn't spot that. My bad. In that case, then maybe your settings aren't being saved properly...
