Safari 3.1 so fast

I download and try the new Safari (3.1), woow reallu fast!

I just wish it has groups and aliases :(

Any opinion about new Safari browser?

k_rock923 8th April 2008 23:52

Firefox 3.0 Beta 5 faster on Mac OS X than Safari 3.1

At least on some benchmarks.

Sawg 9th April 2008 00:35

Plus Safari on Windows is just poo. There is no reason to not be using Firefox, or Opera if that is your thing.

If you really want to go crazy, Swift: http://try.swift.ws/
Native Windows WebKit based Browser. (Webkit is the thing below Safari that actually renders pages, equivalent to Firefox's Gecko)

k_rock923 9th April 2008 00:44

Also, links works rather well ;)

Nico1980 9th April 2008 12:22

In my PC Safari is, by far, much more faster, twice at least.

k_rock923 9th April 2008 12:34

Faster than what? Firefox? Maybe. Opera? I don't think so.

Swift still has some minor usability problems though, eg. it would be nice if hitting return in the address bar actually did something.
But apart from those...

So is Windows 3.1 ;)

Mr Jones 9th April 2008 13:52

Only in a 90's kind of way though...

ryan 9th April 2008 13:56

That's like old lady fast.

k_rock923 9th April 2008 14:13

Also, the following is quite fast:

matt@Ragnarok ~ $ telnet forums.winamp.com 80
Trying 205.188.229.24...
Connected to forums.gforums.winamp.com.
Escape character is '^]'.

Incidentally, anyone know what the gforums subdomain is?

cooky560 9th April 2008 17:37

Safari is teh suck on Windows though, its slower than anything, doesn't follow the native interface and the fonts are all screwy

Psythik 9th April 2008 21:55

Try using it in Windows 3.1.

Firefox 3B5 holds a 7% lead over Safari 3.1 on Windows and OSX.

k_rock923 10th April 2008 02:18

Fair point. Note that I'm not against Firefox in any way. I still use it most of the time, but I do like Opera quite a bit.

zootm 10th April 2008 21:16

Safari is a neat browser but the Windows version is dreadful. The font and widget rendering make it look terrible in the context of a Windows desktop.

fwgx 10th April 2008 21:41

I'd like to use Safari on Windows, but I'm waiting for a version that will work with workgroups.

Sawg 10th April 2008 22:06

Safari 3.11 for Workgroups?

Yeah, sure. No problems, just was pointing out that tidbit.

Apple and MS are in talks of a merger. Then they're going to overthrow the US Gov't and then the world.

Vil 17th April 2008 01:41

At least they can manage money.

ryan 17th April 2008 02:05

They need to manage some into my wallet.

P$ycHo™ 17th April 2008 12:35

IE was only made to download Firefox or Opera, whichever you like better.

DKqwerty 18th April 2008 00:13

I use the built-in Winamp browser.

Ha, no, not really. I'm using FF3b5 right now. But none of the current stable releases can render the Acid3 Test, so they all suck.

k_rock923 18th April 2008 00:15

Webkit and Opera sure blow FF out of the water, though.

jakster 20th April 2008 00:52

Been really thingking about using Opera lately and just might have to download it tonight after reading about. I usually bounce back and forth between IE and FF.

P$ycHo™ 20th April 2008 15:48

i used opera for a while but somehow switched back to ff.

gaekwad2 20th April 2008 16:03

I have too many extensions that offer functionality Opera doesn't, and (spot check for xzxzzx) I still hate the way it handles tabs.

tuckerm 20th April 2008 17:06

Back in the day, Firefox had some huge memory leaks so I was forced to use Opera almost full time. It took about 2 weeks to get used to but now I don't look back :)
