How to move mp3s to a new hard disk and keep the database

I've searched but not found the answer.

I've just got a new hard disk and want to move my mp3s from the old E: to the new G: drive. If I just move them, and then rescan or something, will that mess up the Winamp database, stuff like "most played", "recently added", and the star ratings and so on?

What's the best way to do it?

thanks!

Search for the many posts that deal with this issue. I always suggest using the ml_impex plugin.

Thanks, but like I said, I already searched, and I now know how to name files, how to use the jukebox as virtual file system drive, how to sync my portable, but now how to move to a new hard disk.

In lieu of the answer, please could someone tell me what keywords to search for? Thanks again! :)

Anyone?

ml_impex is the keyword. Does it look very common? Every thread where I mention it deals with moving the library to another location.

To do it you:
Export the library
Edit paths of xml using a text editor
Import the xml

Thanks J_Darnley, I'm trying that now. A tip for others, the .xml can be huge (15MB), don't use Notepad for the search and replace, it'll use 100% CPU for ages. Wordpad is much better.

Only problem with Wordpad is that if you're not careful it can mess up the XML file, since Wordpad is basically a word processor and can throw in characters that can screw things up. Reason Notepad was suggested is because it's a basic ASCII text editor. But even better than that would be EditPad (which is what I always use and which can handle any file size).

EditPad is a good choice.

Personally, I'm using Notepad++, fast and powerful
