Can't Burn CD's in WINAMP 5.531
I purchased the PRO version of WINAMP 5.531 and I am using only the default plugins that came with the download. I am running winamp on windows XPsp2 my cd burner is fully operational and I'm using normal office depot brand CD-R's. I have NEVER had any problem burning on my computer, and when I use a different program {Nero} to burn CD's it burns just fine.
Now that I've gotten the background info out of the way here is my problem, I put a blank CD in the drive, winamp show's it's blank. {under the drive in the Media Library view, the designation of the drive changes from just the drive letter to the drive letter and blank disc} but winamp shows the CD-R capacity as 0:00 and when I drag a file from my local audio to the drive it shows the song in the list but when I press the burn button I get an error message saying the the "total capacity of the tracks is larger then the capacity of the blank CD in the Drive" The file by the way is only 5 min & 42 sec in length. I paid for the PRO version so I could burn CD's right in winamp instead of having to export my playlists to another application to burn my music, and this feature has NEVER WORKED!!!!! I just bought WINAMP PRO in MAY of this year. WHY is this fundamental feature not working?? |
This problem has been noted in the forum a number of times.....with no reply or help from Winamp. I gave up and decided that I would have to use Nero to burn CD's. One can hope that this problem is addressed at some point with an update.

I know burning is the ugly stepchild in Winamp and is not likely to be improved anytime soon, but I thought I'd go ahead and report that I have the same issue.
Is it possible that SATA burners are not supported? My old LiteOn PATA burner worked without problems, but my new Samsung SH-S203B SATA burner is treated as a read-only drive by Winamp. Works fine in other burning software. Kind of bummer as the Samsung is one of the best burners out there. Winamo 5.531 Pro XP SP3 Samsung SH-S203B SATA DVD-RW Drive is connected to JMicron SATA controller (non-RAID bios) onboard Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard |
... same to me thats bullshit !

same on 5.54
Thats the first time winamp deceive me so much, I'm really thinking to adopt iTunes |
Yep, still a problem on 5.54 Pro (not that I expected a change).
Would be nice if a Winamp mod/dev could at least acknowledge the issue. Since burning is one of the few reasons to purchase the Pro version, and many Pro users can't burn because of this issue, you would think it would at least warrant their attention. |
I am in the same boat. The whole reason I purchased the PRO version. My problem is that I cannot even figure out how to burn. I have yet to find the Burn button. I put in a Blank CD and the Rip & Burn menu says Blank Disk. Now how do I get the songs onto the CD? Of course the online help is old and does not help. I am running 5.54 Pro.

Note, the Send To functionality is available pretty much anywhere in Winamp where a song is displayed (ML, PL editor, song info in main window, etc.). You can also drag songs to the CD Burner item directly. If you experience the problem discussed in this thread, Winamp will treat your burner as a read-only device and you won't be able to burn a CD. |
Can't really contribute much here besides saying that I'm having the same problem with 3.54 as well. It always says the blank cds have a 0:00 capacity and won't let me burn them. Sometimes, when I first load Winamp, it'll say a capactiy of 256:34 or something crazy, and every time I click away from and back to the burner it changes, and eventually goes to 0:00. I've always used Winamp to burn cds and never had a problem. I hate all other methods, so I guess I have to downgrade to a previous version. This really sucks that they won't ever respond to this kind of error. Bugger.

all i can contribute is my shared frustration... i loathe iTunes with passion but its functionality is far superior to winamp (in terms of organization and burning at least).
winamp has the best user interface out there, yet they keep short changing us with their a) crappy cd burner (and by crappy i mean windows default cd burner is more useful), b) lack of support for flash video and c) its inability to organize your music. i really hope they get it together, i dream of the day where winamp will do everything for me (because right now i use winamp, itunes, windows media player, divx, and VLC all for different things lol) |
WINAMP Burning CD Capacity Issue
Try adding one song at a time. I got it up to 9 songs before I had a problem. I then burned the songs OK
|
i used to use winamp to burn all my cd's in the past, i actually found it better than any other program as it actually seems to put th edata on a disc unlike some other programs which just seemed to waste discs. I recently changed laptops so had to reinstall winamp- now i can't see how to burn anything and am at a loss with what to do!!
Looks like it'll be deinstalled!! |
The only thing I will say here, guys, is that the newest version is 5.572. It might be worth it to download the newest version and then post again here if the problem still exists.

Cant burn cds, continued
I've been a happy Winamp user since 2001. For the past year or so I've not been able to burn cd's and I forget at which version this began. During this past year whenever I download the new version I get an error that states there was a problem installing something (it goes by so fast I don't know what component this is.) and that there may be a problem burning cds.
I get this error whether or not I have uninstalled the previous version. Today I just Purchased 5.572 PRO and that error still appeared while downloading. Same cd problem. I get the burn list ok. I insert a blank cd into one of my 2 drives, and Winamp recognizes there is a blank cd and even tells me how many minutes are left on it. When I click on burn, the window comes up that should let me chose burn speed but there are no speeds to choose, even on PRO. I click on burn cd again and it tells me to insert a blank cd again, even though the burn list shows there is a cd in it with say 20 minutes of 80 left on the disc. Both drives do this and removing and reinserting disc do nothing. This has happened with every version for over a year now. This has to be directly related to the error I get while downloading Winamp but nothing I do prevents this error. Some component does not download and cds will not burn. I would like a refund of my $19.95 but found no where I can ask for one. Please Help. Thanks. :( |
Answer: Can't Burn in Wianmp
It has to do with the Skin you are using try using Winamp Modern and that should fix it.;)
|
Been searching for days trying to figure this out! Something so simple as the skin being the problem, ! It has worked to change my skin to the modern. So far I have burned 3 in a row without any more of the issues. I burn a lot of CDs for my band members, so we wills see. Thanks for the info!
|
Well, never mind my previous post! It allowed me to burn 3 and that was that! Now same issue!
|
An example of someone else with a similar problem...
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=303804 You probably need the Roxio Update http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=324557 |
Yeah me too sorry I took so long to get back still working on this conundrum, do the guys at Winamp have no answer?
|
@zuvok - have you tried the links in my post about updating the Roxio part of Winamp? Winamp relies on Roxio software to do the burning. Follow the links and it tells you how to update that part. Hopefully this will fix your bug as it has solved the problem for many.
