Notes:

Hidden winamp.ini setting for adjusting overall volume even for files with RG applied
(will be added to ui in 'Prefs -> Playback -> ReplayGain' later)
replaygain_preamp=0 (in 0.001 dB units, i.e. 1000 = 1dB, adjust value to taste, e.g. 6000 for 6dB boost or -1000 for -1dB reduction)

The 'Internal statistics' menu item for modern skins is a beta-only feature and won't be in the final builds (and also, for this reason, will not be translatable)

Winamp Dropbox is an alpha plugin. Use Ctrl+Shift+D to open.
Its actual purpose is still a bit of a mystery, but all shall be revealed in good course...

f263.w5s (used by in_flv) is a beta-only feature and will not be in the final build.

__________________________________________________________________________

Reporting Bugs:

Please report any issues with the beta in this thread only!
Make sure your report is complete, according to the sticky threads in Bug Reports, ie.
Clean install, no 3rd-party plugins, list of plugins, full step-by-step method of reproduction, relevant system specs, exact error messages, screenshots, which skin (one of Classic, Modern, or Bento only, or all three), links to sample files, etc.
If error reports, screenshots, sample files, etc are smaller than 200kb, then please attach them to your post here. Otherwise, please upload to one of stashbox.org, mediafire.com, or sendspace.com and post the url here (no rapidshare or imageshack or similar links please).
Note that incomplete/lame bug reports may be totally ignored.

__________________________________________________________________________

Known Bugs/Issues:

1. The Bento browser is not localized/translatable in this build, but hopefully should be in time for final release.

2. NowPlaying & ML InfoView pane might be a bit buggy. Note that these issues are constantly being worked on serverside during the entire beta phase. Please ignore (don't report) any script errors in any of the online features. These have been enabled for testing/dev purposes, but will be disabled fully in the final release.

3. The AOL Radio entry in the client whatsnew.txt will not feature until the final release.

4. Some of the lang pack translations might not be fully up-to-date...

5. Rip & Burn / CD Drive views crash when Sonic Engine isn't installed

The sidecar has some compatibility issues with this version, hopefully this will be sorted out for the final version. For now, I've temporary removed the Sidecar from the installer and the installer will automatically uninstall the sidecar on old installs.

Changes since first Public Beta:

* removed trap translations for official bundled Winamp languages

* fixed FFOD translation issue, related to Dutch language file
* updated to NSIS 2.37.3 (Unicode)
* updated Turkish, French, Polish, Portuguese, and Spanish language files to revision 1.11

German Translation

The German translation now features full localized images for the Modern Skin, big thanks to Pawel Porwisz for drawing the images. :)

It's also based on latest Winamp 5.54 example file, which provides a much more complete translation especially for the Modern Skins, And it has a fully localized MilkDrop translation and tons of tweaks.

I hope you like it.

Undocumented new Winamp 5.54 Skin features

releated to: * Misc: Various other 'Winamp Modern' & 'Bento' skin updates

The Winamp Modern Skin now shows values for Preamp and EQ in the songticker:

http://stashbox.org/150900/modern_eq.png

The Modern Skin notifier now also shows the Album-Art like Bento:

http://stashbox.org/150903/mod_notifier.png

Modern Skin Album Art window now also features the right click menu:

http://stashbox.org/150909/mod_aa.png

And Bento now shows the state of the Balance in Songticker too, like Modern Skin already did:

Thanks to the person, who added these lovely stuff. ;) :)

Noticed this on a slightly earlier build. I think the state remains OK, it's just the display on stop that gets reversed.

on stop only __:__ is displayed for me

Misc: [enc_flac] Now encodes using libFLAC instead of Flake

Just an question. Why was this change made? I am a big FLAC fan, but flake seemed to be O.K.

I like how Flake is still available via the Essentials pack.

GREAT WORK DEVS.

@Juanus

libFLAC is much more tested than FLAKE and it gets more often updates than FLAKE, I guess this were the main reasons.

The same situation on my PC.

Okay, no config for enc_flac. The slider for compression level is missing or wasn't included. If it is supposed to be missing, why? If it won't be added, what is the setting used?

Improved? That should be "Worsened". Anyway, thanks for providing the essentials pack.

There is a slight error, maybe, in the installer. The H.263 flv decoder only says (h) in the text after the checkbox. Also, can you not have the installer close if Winamp is open? The Winamp installer doesn't bitch and then close.

Juanus 2nd July 2008 21:54

I have a slider for enc_flac

DJ Egg 2nd July 2008 21:56

Hmm, enc_flac shows the compression slider okay for me (see screenshot).
Are you using a lang pack maybe?

And the "(h)" after in_flv description only shows when f263.w5s is present.

[edit -> re: in_flv, not enc_flac]

ohh, you're talking about the installer... hmm, sorry, but you've lost me there, lol

Only had a look at Modern, over the top install.

Take a proper look later and post back if any different.

Nevermind. I just saw this by Egg...

I didn't realize you were talking about the installer. I thought you were talking about FLAC encoding configuration. :igor:

J_Darnley 2nd July 2008 22:02

I'll try a clean install. And my comment about the installer was supposed to be directed at Koopatrooper about the essentials installer. Perhaps it should be changed to something like "H.263 decoder for in_flv" because the installer doesn't actually include in_flv.dll.

Koopa 2nd July 2008 22:05

1. Cannot reproduce your slider issue.

2. The compile date was improved, because just America is using %Y/%m/%d, the rest of the world is using the other version, so I have no idea what you mean.

And just to clear things up for the others, you are really crying about the compiler date format in the installer:

http://stashbox.org/150953/ep.png

3.
Quote:

The H.263 flv decoder only says (h) in the text after the checkbox.
Which installer language are you using? As I pointed out above, there was not enough time to include updated languages for French etc.

The English language just works fine and says "Nullsoft FLAC decoder v1.1 (h)", because if you install the .w5s file, the version number will automatically changed to "v1.1 (h)" in Winamp.

4.
Quote:

Also, can you not have the installer close if Winamp is open?
Most plugins will be just loaded after Winamp was restarted, plus the EP installer has an option to open Winamp after installation, i fail to see your point.

Btw the installer works like this like Winamp 5.31

DJ Egg 2nd July 2008 22:06

@J_Darnley & everyone else
We shouldn't even be discussing h.263 ;-)
We can't specifically mention it anywhere in the installer.
Just be thankful it's even available, and leave it at that.
[edit] @Benski: Yes, you were right. My bad :-(

@Nunzio
The edit was re: in_flv, not enc_flac :-D

DBGARZA 2nd July 2008 22:16

I have a question related to Winamp Essentials, more specific about the Find File on Disk Plug-in translation thing on the installer.

The plug-in is translated to the language your Windows installation has or to the languange you did choose on the installer?

is just that I have the Winamp in english and when installed the essentials pack I clicked on the translate the plug-in checkbox and when I checked it on Winamp it didn't came out in english nor spanish (my Windows XP is in spanish) but into another language, my guess is that is was german.

This is how it appears on the winamp.ini file:

[Find File on Disk]
menu=Op Schijf Zoeken Ctrl+F
hotkey=Algemeen: Huidig bestand op Schijf Vinden

I fixed it by editing that file but the question is how exactly works the translation for that plug-in?

Koopa 2nd July 2008 22:18

DBGARZA:

it uses the language, which was choosen in the installer, it's by design. I'll look into your translation issue and it will be fixed soon, if I can see the issue.

[Edit] Fixed the issue, there was bug in the dutch translation file, which wrongly used:

LangString "FFOD_MENU" ${LANG_ENGLISH} "Op Schijf Zoeken Ctrl+F"
LangString "FFOD_KEY" ${LANG_ENGLISH} "Algemeen: Huidig bestand op Schijf Vinden"

instead of:

LangString "FFOD_MENU" ${LANG_DUTCH} "Op Schijf Zoeken Ctrl+F"
LangString "FFOD_KEY" ${LANG_DUTCH} "Algemeen: Huidig bestand op Schijf Vinden"

Thanks for the report.

[Edit 2] Nunzio, no, my screenshots are poor if I compare them to yours. They were just made in a few seconds and don't have these nice looking arrows and descriptions like yours.

So you are the winner and probably always will be. :D

Nunzio390 2nd July 2008 22:26

LOL @Chris! :D

I see you are popping back and posting/editing in a bunch of screenies! :D

So can I now label you the winner of the screenie-posting "competition" instead of ME?? ;) :p

J_Darnley 2nd July 2008 22:31

Ok, I did a clean install and it the FLAC compression slider shows up. I will try and see what it is about my current install.

Koopatrooper,
English, only ever English. If I was using something else I would have said so. My point later was that the installer doesn't include in_flv so it shouldn't lead people to believe that it does. f263.w5s isn't of much use without in_flv is it? [some time later] I see what Winamp does and I guess I understand why you copied it.

About the date format. I don't know any country that commonly places the year first. The ISO standard does and that's why I think that moving away from it is hardly an improvement. This is just me whining about it so if you don't care then I will shut up.

About the (essentials) installer detecting if Winamp is running. It says "Please close all instances of Winamp before installing the pack!
Close Winamp now?"
Press No, which I hoped would continue, closed the installer. The Winamp installer does not do this. I can go right to actual installing before it complains. I ran the installer again to check only to discover I had to close Winamp even if I was not going to install anything. Again, this is just me whining about it so if you don't care then I will shut up.

P.S. too many edits by all

No problem and that explains much because if you made a clean install of the essentials pack and didn't clicked the checkbox for the translation of the plug-in, on Winamp that menu appeared blank, if you checked the Winamp.ini file you only saw the entry for the Find File on Disk but on the entries Menu= and Hotkey= appeared blank :p

Anyhow good thing it got fixed.

Now I have two questions or more like one bug and one question about Winamp 5.54 beta.

First the bug, if I play a song and check Winamps preferences with the song playing, Winamp all of sudden closes, it doesn't sends any error, just closes, and I don't even moved any setting, just with click the different tabs for the different settings causes this.

Now the question, did the open/save playlist browse dialog got modified? it is lacking of the five buttons on the left, you know the ones for Recent Documents, Desktop, My Documents, My Computer and My Network Places.

Oddly enough on the add song browse dialog the buttons are present.

I have no permission to talk more about that, just want to say one thing, it looks like the people who made that file wants that it looks like in the installer. Sure it's just an addition and not the whole plug-in. But the text of the installer was not choosen by me. And if you look how this works, the text makes sense.

UK, Germany, France etc are all using the same format, I never heard about an iso standard and to be honest I don't care, because the "new" format is what most people are using everyday in most countries.

I was happy, that the dates in the library were localized, because I have trouble to read the American format. It's complicated, if you've learned the other, non ISO standard version for many years.

Maybe I'll make the format changable via the language files, but then i want to the an EP translation from you in your language. ;)

Personally I always wished, the Winamp installer would use the same format like EP, I have to push the "Retry" button several times, when Winamp installer detects a running instance. Maybe I'll change the behavior of the "No" button, that the installer won't be closed, we shall see.

DJ Egg 2nd July 2008 22:57

Okay...
can we now talk about Winamp 5.54 Beta please, and not the Essential Pack? ;-)

Good, isn't it?! :-)

J_Darnley 2nd July 2008 23:22

Okay, what the hell? I've just run the installer a few times with various amounts of cleanliness but I could never get the FLAC slider to show. So I went through some of the other encoders to see if there were more missing (there was not) so I went back to FLAC and everything was there. I guess the problem is solved and if anyone else posts we can suggest this to them.

Koopa 3rd July 2008 00:49

Winamp Essentials Pack 5.54 Beta 2 released:

Good is an understatment. After the initial flurry, this thread has been super quiet.

I have only found one thing that is not 5.54 specific. (I THink I reported this somewhere)

when you start the ML, the Rip and Burn tree item is grouped. But the box is not checked Gowever, once you check the box, then the box and the tree item corrospond. No Biggie really... Opps sorry. Kn0tte a problem. (that never gets old)

Second, could you tell us the expected behabiour of the "* Improved: Background reading option for playlist metadata". Does this have anything to do with the new selection under Titles where it says Read metadata in the backgroundwhen files are loaded into winamp?

great Job Devs. This shouldnt be Beta

The above was not the case for me. I looked at your above attached screenshot. In my case "Show eject icons next to the CD/DVD drives" was already checked. There was no need for me to check it at all.

This, however...

Juanus 3rd July 2008 05:31

I dont think that I explained myself correctly.
I wasnt talking "about the show eject icon.." choice. The choice that says "Group CD/DVD Drives under the rip and burn parent". That is not checked by default. However, the CD Drive is under thr rip and burn parent by default. Once you check that box, then the check mark starts corosponding to the action in the ML Tree. If I need to get into a screenshot war, I will... but you will be soooooooorrrrrrrry!

This version still installs Gracenote even though the only things I have checked in the installer, are:
- Multimedia Engine: MP3, OGG, Directsound
- Winamp Library: Local Media, iPod support
- User Interface Extensions: JTF, Dropbox

Also, why do I need to walkthrough the Winamp Setup again?
And it didn't remember which skin I was already using, it defaulted to "default skin"

LOL! :D
Sorry... I misunderstood based on your screenie and what I quoted. No probs. ;)

BUT... something strange just happened. First, understand that I do NOT have Sonic Burning/Ripping support installed, so that may have something to do with this...

The moment I click on "Rip & Burn" in the ML tree list I get this...

What I'm going to do is reinstall 5.54 beta, but this time with Sonic Burning/Ripping support (which I do NOT need, so it will be temporary), and report back if it does/doesn't happen again.

Nunzio390 3rd July 2008 06:17

OK... this is something that the devs need to look into (if it can be reproduced by others). I just reinstalled with Sonic Burning/Ripping support and the above error does not occur.

So, Egg / Benski / et al...

If reproduced then this is a problem for those who elect not to install Sonic Burning/Ripping support (like me) ;)

LOL! For the record, in all these years, this is the first time that I've ever experienced this type of error. :D

No probs! I thought you were looking for specific feedback on "on-stop" because you had said this...

Makes no difference to me... zeros, zippos, or dotsos! ;)

What's more important to me is the above-mentioned issue with the Sonic support. :D

- I get a crash when clicking the "Search Web For Artist" button.

Ironically the crash reporter also crashes or gives an error "Cannot generate report" or something to that effect. I think it might be because the crash reporter attempts to place that report in the C:\ root instead of a user safe area like \Apps\Local. I will try that later.

- The Album View pane cuts off the last entry about half way. You need to click on it to bring it into view.

About the flac compression slider couldn't there be
numbers 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 and say default on 5.

or have a text below the slider, if it starts at 5 then:
"compression level 5 (default)"
