Setting up the sound system
Hi
I want to set up my sound system at work but want ideas how to solve it in a smooth way. We have 4 pc with a person behind each one however we only have on computer that is actually physically hooked into the sound system. All others are connected via a local LAN. What I would like to do is set up a server on the hooked up computer and allow all us other 4 connect to this server and meddle with the playlist and play music from their own computers on this one. What I am thinking is to put up a shoutcast server on this box , then allowing all other users connect to it. What do you think of this solution and if you know a better one I am all ears? |
your idea sounds like too much work and quality will be degraded too much from overcompression.
also shoutcast dsp last time I checked didn't work happily with vista. since the machines are already lan'd remote desktop would be the way i'd do it. The files on each PC could be accessible anyway with filesharing. http://www.tightvnc.com/ |
Can anyone say: BOOM BOX!

You can use remote desktop for a fast solution. But if you care about security or performance, I would take a winamp control plugin which can be used from remote pcs to control the winamp. Don't remember their names but there are many of them, just have a look in the plugins section. In a friend's company, I've set remote desktop so he can sit in the bar, connect to the music computer and change the music from his mobile (for mobile access there is also a windows mobile remote control software which I haven't tried yet) |
