Skinning Engine Improvements

Well, I've fixed various time bugs, so skinners are now free to use an ELAPSED or REMAINING Time mode.
Moreover we've added support for Stringtables in XML, so you can unify the Strings in your skin, for a better translation. We will continue w/ this for the next release so the whole skinning engine for modern/bento is driven by stringtables and you can adopt those strings for translation of your skin.
Besides I've worked on List objects: They can have now icons on the left side and a transparent or stretched background.

The whole changelist can be taken from this thread:

The German translation now features full localized images for the Modern Skin, big thanks to Pawel Porwisz for drawing the images. :)

It's also based on latest Winamp 5.54 example file, which provides a much more complete translation especially for the Modern Skins, And it has a fully localized MilkDrop translation and tons of tweaks.

I hope you like it.

Is this the problem of avast of Winamp?
Completely false-positive. The Winamp installers at this site contain absolutely NO trojans/viruses/malware.

Report the false-positive to Avast and have them make corrections on their end.

/usr/bin/Tux 9th July 2008 18:08

So what does this bundle3.exe actually do? Sth like adware?

Koopa 9th July 2008 18:10

Probably just one of these bundles, like eMusic or Winamp toolbar. So no real adware and if you don't hit "next" as fast as possible in the installer, you never will see it. ;)

DJ Egg 9th July 2008 18:12

Yup, bundle3 is emusic (on the "get the most out of winamp" page).

There's definitely no virus in it, so you should report it to avast as a false-positive.

/usr/bin/Tux 9th July 2008 18:14

OK, I will.
But maybe you should also provide some downloads without that stuff in them...

hmhofman 9th July 2008 18:26

Trojans

I can't even download the file without stopping the virusscan!

So i checked the features list.
Lite version does not only strip the emusic and other bundles, it strippes almost everything.

Seems I'm bound for another player...

/usr/bin/Tux 9th July 2008 18:28

Well... disable the Web Access Protection for now, so did I...

Koopa 9th July 2008 18:28

Why is it so hard, to wait a few days, until Avast has fixed their detection database?

Instead of looking for another media player, you may should look for a better AV program. My AV program doesn't report anything.

And it's also known, that some AV tools report NSIS installers as maleware, so blame them, for their detection code.

walker1973 9th July 2008 18:37

There is nothing when using Kaspersky, say nothing. Use another one or report it so they can fix this fast.

Why is it so hard just keeping that adware stuff off?

Squadman 9th July 2008 19:59

Hooray for new version. Only thing I immediately notice is this:

http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/8488/waxp6.jpg

Is new version of Bento suppost to look like this or is it a bug? Those black backgrounds looks very out of place to me.

EDIT: Also, when I play flash videos (.swf) the video plays fine, but the window in Bento doesn't switch to the video page automatically, I have to change it myself.

DrO 9th July 2008 20:04

Squadman: it's intended design which doesn't really go but that is what was agreed from the vague details i've seen.

/usr/bin/Tux: it's what you have to put up with now and is the joys of a corporte owned product that wants it to pay for itself -> hence emusic and other things which prevent certain installer options being remembered.

Nunzio390 9th July 2008 20:05

Squadman...

As DrO said above, not a bug. That's the way those 2 new buttons are supposed to look, and is the way Martin created them.

Here they are in Windowshade mode...

http://nunzioweb.com/images/winamp/b...ew-buttons.png

And I rather like them. They "stand out"! ;)

DJ Egg 9th July 2008 20:15

emusic isn't adware :-/

Omega X 9th July 2008 20:16

WTF?! That was fast.

Was there a security vulnerability or something?

@koopatroopa

AV makers are well aware of NSIS Installers since WAY more software than Winamp uses it. The AV program reacted to the bundle inside of the program. More than likely, some malware program used that name "bundle3" before.

doodle2 9th July 2008 20:18

I might not have noticed, but... where is the changelog between build 2124 and final?

martin.deimos 9th July 2008 20:25

for all of you complaining about those buttons in MCV / shade:
believe me this was the best solution and i don't want to give any more details on this.

Artist 3D 9th July 2008 20:25

Ah, why did Avast warned me that Winamp contains a virus?

File name:
D:\winamp554_pro_all.exe\$SMPROGRAMS\$1\$PLUGINSDIR\bundle3.exe

Malware name:
Win32:Trojan-gen {Other}

Malware type:
Virus/Worm

VPS version:
080709-0, 09/07/2008

Omega X 9th July 2008 20:27

Read up, earlier in the thread.

Avast reacted to the emusic "bundle3" exe inside of the installer.

Update your AVS definitions. The download went through after I did that.

doodle2 9th July 2008 20:34

I forgot to say thank you for the great new build... Didn't expect a final so soon after beta :-)

One thing though: Are you planning on making Bento customizable any time soon? This is killing me, Winamp is getting more and more bloated with every release.

Don't get me wrong, I remove all the stuff I don't need at the installer stage, but certain elements from Bento remain - which I don't really need.

I don't install Visualization - so why the tab for it stays? I don't install video support for Winamp - why should I have the tab there? The same goes for the browser tab - I NEVER USE IT.

And I can go on and on, especially with the recently added buttons (Search for artist/more info on artist). I understand that you want those buttons to be there by default, but for those who don't use it and don't want to use it - why not give the option?

It used to be that Winamp showed relevant options only if they were installed (the Media Library is still like that - I don't have a rip/burn section, because I didn't install it). Now? It just shows everything, whether it is there or not.

I hope that other people agree with me and think this matter needs attention.

They look far nicer in windowshade mode, but next to the other two buttons, they just seem wrong. Oh well, it's not gonna kill me. :p

bento\window\controls.png or big bento\window\componentcontrols.png are the files to be altered (depending on the bento version in use).

doodle2:

Yeah customizable tabs etc would be great, but to be honest, I'm tired in reading all these "Winamp is bloated" stuff.

Vizualizations are in Winamp since the dawn of time, Video support is in there since Winamp 2.9x.

Omega X:

right you are, but especially Avast had many issues with NSIS installers in the past.

/usr/bin/Tux:

Well, Winamp is freeware, and trust me, we all would be happy if no eMusic etc would be bundled, but from AOL's point of view, these bundles may bring some money, lord knows, hehe

I know, but that's not what I said. I didn't say that the features themselves are bloat. It's just that in other skins you had the option, for example, to only open the video window if you used it. Same goes for Visualization.

So if Bento is a uniform skin (which I like), let us have the option to customize it even a little, not even to the full extent of non-uniform skins (where you can move the windows around and place them wherever you want).

I didn't bother posting it, sorry.
It's only been 5 days, and the only changes are for bugs/issues that were reported in the 5.54 beta thread.

That all said and done, there's a bug in build 2145 with the Dutch installer
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=294227

We'll probably be uploading a 2147 build shortly (which will also include a few other minor fixes that were committed since 2145). Details to follow.

Re: Bento skin
It's been discussed time and time again ever since 5.5 release.
It is a SingleUI skin which uses/requires all Winamp components.
It isn't going to change.
If you don't like it, your options are to use the Winamp Modern or Winamp Classic skin instead, or even one of the 3rd-party cPro or classic Bento versions (sorry, I don't have links for them at hand).

danburd 9th July 2008 22:10

I'm sorry if I missed something, but what is the purpose of the dropbox? I find it intriguing.

Koopa 9th July 2008 22:53

I think nobody knows, which sense this plugin makes at the moment.

From the sticky thread:

For now, all you can really do with it is drag+drop songs into it from anywhere that allows drag+drop (winamp media library, windows explorer, etc), and save playlists (click the Playlist icon thing in the dropbox window for the menu). I also think double-click/enter on songs in it acts as Play/Enqueue (whatever is the default action in Winamp -> General Prefs)...

DJ Egg 10th July 2008 00:05

Build 2147 is now up on the download servers.

Changes since build 2145:

Two new * Fixed: [ml_playlists] entries in whatsnew (these were long-standing bugs, and not just 5.54beta related), ml_playlists.dll bumped to v1.15

A minor drag+drop onto ml frame bug fix (5.54beta-specific, gen_ml version unchanged)

A browser.maki fix for cPro skin compatibility

A few minor gen_dropbox drag+drop bug fixes

Dutch Installer fixed

winamp.exe build version bumped to 2147

and that is all.

If you're still getting build 2145, then wait a while longer.
Note that you might need to empty your internet cache...

If you still can't get build 2147, try adding gdownload into the url, eg.
download.gdownload.nullsoft.com/winamp/client/etc
