Slow

Ok, I had to recently go back to XP having tried and hated Vista....WinAmp 5.3 worked a dream....upgraded to 5.5 but lyric plugin wouldnt work....went back to 5.3.....
EVERY action I tell winAmp to do is painfully, painfully slow!!! The only thing I have added/upgraded since this problem is windows automatically upgraded Windows Media Player to 10 (not that I use it)
Please help cos its driving me bonkers!

First, only the latest release of Winamp is supported here. The latest public release is 5.531. The latest public beta release is 5.54 Beta (5.54 Final is due very shortly). My suggestion is to upgrade to 5.54 Beta (many of the glitches in 5.531 are fixed).

See if your lyrics plugin works with 5.54 Beta. You never said which lyrics plugin you were using. I know for a fact that this one works perfectly with 5.54 Beta, since I'm using it myself.

If you still experience problems...

ADDENDUM:

After I posted above, I saw that 5.54 Final was officially released (I told you it was due very shortly :)). So download and install that...

Winamp 5.54 Released

Install that instead of the 5.54 Beta release I linked to previously. 5.54 Final is not yet offered at the Winamp.com main site yet though, but it is an official release.

Sorry I was mistaken on which release - ok...I am now running 5.53 and I did install and run the update of 5.54 but I still had the same problems i.e click on a command and at least 30 to 60 seconds later WinAmp performs the task.
The lyrics plugin I was using was Leo's Lyrics.....I might add that ALL was running wonderfully until very recently...maybe someone can check out my system I would gladly give one of you guys permission to poke around on here a bit and sort me out! :o

Sawg 9th July 2008 18:55

Leo's Lyrics database lookup fails quite often and it is often complained about in their forums. It's up-and-down. I already suggested an alternate lyrics plugin for you that is always reliable. But that's your decision. :)

Well, I already told you what would be needed on your part if you need further help. I quote again from myself above...

[EDIT] And Sawg just suggested basically the same in his post above (that I didn't see till this edit).
SNAP!! Hi, Sawg! :D

And removing all 3rd-party authored plugins may determine which is the culprit. In this case, Leo's Lyrics may be causing Winamp to "hang" due to it's inability to locate info as it queries its database. But we won't know for sure till you provide your system specs, the log files, and try again with a completely clean install without any 3rd-party plugins installed.

charli4064 9th July 2008 19:14

ok thanks so much for your help - i have done a fresh clean install of 5.54 with NO 3rd party plugins and the problem remains....I have read the tips and tweaks so thanks for that also
my system specs:
Unknown CPU type - MMX, 3DNow, 1.8GHzGHz, 1024mb of RAM
video chip RADEON 7000 AGP
Sound Device VIA AC'97 Audio (Wave)
Windows XP Pro SP 2
DirectX Version = DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
System Manufacturer - VIA Technologies Inc
Winamp 5.54
No Plugins

Where are your attached logs? At the very least, your Plugins List...

From the specs link both I and Sawg linked to (and is the most important log)...
-A List of Plugins (*click* for full details) <-- this is the most important log!
It doesn't matter that you said "No Plugins" above. Again, quoting from HERE...
Note: for diagnostic purposes, we will also ask for a my_plugin_list.txt log even if you haven't allegedly installed any 3rd-party plugins. This is so we can also confirm that you are using all of the latest versions of the default 1st-party plugins (ie. using old versions of the native plugins can cause conflicts). The log also shows us other important Winamp-specific stats which might help us to diagnose the problem.
Screenshot and text description (following) of the usage of the
click-n-install --> "One for Nunz" plugin ...

http://nunzioweb.com/images/winamp/one-for-nunz.png

Install the plugin, open Winamp,
Go to: Prefs (Ctrl+P) > Plugins > General Purpose > One For Nunz > Config,
Checkmark "Open text file once generated",
Click "Config" again,
Then click: "Generate all listings (as below)"
(which auto includes listings of "installed plugins" & "supported file extensions").
When Notepad opens, save the file (via: File menu -> Save As) and attach my_plugin_list.txt in the zip along with your HijackThis and dxdiag logs (if required).
