itunes store help

My ipod hangs up forever with itunes 7 and I disconnect before it recognizes my ipod. I tried to use winamp, the latest version, and boy was it fast. I have 2 questions that I hope have not been asked yet.

1) I get the free selections sometimes from the itunes store(M4P). Is there a way to legally put them on my ipod without itunes? I can copy them to the computer, but winamp won't let me put them on my ipod. I don't care if they are M4P format.

2)Do M4P files take the same amount of space on my ipod as 128 MP3 files.

Winamp has no native support for DRM restricted M4P files (even if they are free). As Apple does not play well with others, so it cannot transfer them to your iPod.

File size is all based on Bitrate. an 128kbps MP3 will be (about) the exact same size as the same song encoded as a 128kbps M4P file
