Winamp Crashing on Exit in XP SP2

Running Windows XP SP2 on a ThinkPad. I download new versions of Winamp as they come out, but in every version so far when I close Winamp i get the following: "Winamp has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." This has been going on since I started using Winamp on this computer.

Here are details about the error from the application logs:

Faulting application winamp.exe, version 5.5.4.2165, faulting module ole32.dll, version 5.1.2600.2726, fault address 0x00049dab.

Application Failure winamp.exe 5.5.4.2165 in ole32.dll 5.1.2600.2726 atoffset 00049dab..

I have searched every where and have found nothing but, uninstal/reinstall which I have done multiple times. The last time I even went through the registry and manually removed the Winamp files that were left behind by the program remover.

Any insight to help me get this resolved would be much appreciated.

Also, sounds like a bunk third-party plugin.
full uninstall and reinstall

I have already tried a full uninstall/reinstall but just to be sure I did it again and followed the instructions exactly. Open it up - seems to work fine but if I close I get the same error as I did before. It is also worth mentioning that I have never installed any plugins into winamp before, not even the toolbar, and freebie offers during install.

I have been getting an error only on exiting winamp that says

"winamp.exe - Application Error

The exception unknown software exception (0xc06d007e) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812aeb."

Nothing else happens, and Winamp doesn't hang, but it is annoying.
