syncing to strean Error, then windows closes Winamp pro on me.

A Windows error window pops up when I try to start Winamp Pro. and wants to report the error, then a "syncing to stream error" in winamp's scroll window shows up...I have Windows XP SP2 Pro and I truly don'na remember when I bought Winamp Pro 5.541...5 months ago maybe?
PLease help? Window closes winamp everytime I start it!

Have you tried a full uninstall > reinstall (AKA clean install) of Winamp?

It sounds like a third party plug-in is causing a issue. Anyways, in the description of requested Winamp & system specs there is a standalone version of the plug-in that provides the list of plugins.

syncing to strean Error, then windows closes Winamp pro on me.

Thank you so much for your help! I did indeed do a clean install, same trouble...I will try to get the list for you...BTW I got this error massage:

AppName: winamp.exe AppVer: 5.5.4.2165 ModName: kernel32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.3119 Offset: 00012a5b

Does that "say" anythin' to thee?

Do you have AVG? If so read this.

Otherwise, do you have any MP3 players or flash drives (etc.) mounted? Please provide Winamp & system specs. Among the information request is a List of Plugins, that is normally done via a plug-in. However, if Winamp is crashing at startup, there is a standalone version of the plug-in that provides the list of plugins.

If you see `Loading test failed' against an entry then there is a likely chance that the
plugin will not be correctly loaded by Winamp (is often due to a missing dependancy).
Visit http://www.dependencywalker.com/ for an app which will allow you to see what's missing.

Have you updated the virus definitions for AVG? The file zlib.dll is missing from the plugins list. That is the file that AVG has a false positive on. Either AVG is quarantining the file or deleting it.

Update the definitions for AVG. Then you can move zlib.dll from the Virus Vault back to the Winamp directory. If AVG has deleted the file, reinstall Winamp. Or, if you would rather not reinstall Winamp download 7-Zip (4.60 beta version). Open the Winamp installer in 7-Zip and manually extract zlib.dll into the Winamp folder.

Gburell517 26th October 2008 19:25

The Virus definitions update automatically every day at 3 am, so aye, they do...I REALLY don'na want to reinstall Winamp AGAIN...

JonnyMac, You Rock lad! I found the zlib.dll in me AVG Vault and restored it back...no more errors!!! Could not have been simpler!!! Thank you so much love, you are me hero!
Slan go foill,
Glenda
