Winamps rocks! PLEASE someone help me.

Can anyone help me out on this? I switched back to winamp yesterday afters years of being away. Really enjoying the new features and layout. Here is what I have going on.

Due to the nature of what I do for a living I need to have as much memory free as I can on my laptop. That's one of the reasons I came back to winamp and wanting to get rid of Itunes once and for all. I store all my mp3's on external drive and drop them on to my 5 gen ipod, through Itunes. Keeps from filling up my hard drives on my laptop. NO syncing with my laptop. So, I just unplug my external drive and play my music through my Ipod and have all the free space that I need on my internal hard drives.

Ok, so the problem is this. I add the new mp3's that I got yesterday to my extrenal drive, no problem. When I try to add them to my Ipod through winamp, nothing happens. Don't even show up. I drag and drop, nothing. I right clicked on the mp3's and use the “send to” method and yes, it does send them to the Ipod however, they show up in a folder on my ipod that has no music in it and they don't show up in winamp. I did all the usual checks, restart laptop, restart winamp, removed the mp3's, tried again several times. Still nothing.(I can send screen shots if someone needs to see them) Click the sync button and winamp just fritzes out. Not sure if that's what I need to do? I won't do playlists because I have 30+ gigs of data and I CAN'T have that on my hard drives like I stated above.

I've searched the forums and have come up with nothing that addresses the issue that I have.

I REALLY, REALLY want to get rid of Itunes. Apple is becoming just like Microsoft with all their automatic installs of useless programs and the B.S. that goes along with them.

Please, please someone help me with this. I'll call you or send you and email or whatever it takes to make this work. Help me get rid of this proprietary useless P.O.S. of a program that Itunes has become.

I'm running vista, s.p. 1 and whatever updates they did last Thursday. I installed the “full” winamp package. I removed some of the useless files that I don't need, language, cd burn. Not sure if any of that makes a difference.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
:)
