Cant longer play ogg

For no reason at all i have lost the ogg support for winamp, its unticked in preferences, if i enable it, it unticks itself again after exiting the window

reinstall winamp doenst either help, i install with every deafult functions offered that allways have been enough to play ogg-files, its allso impossible to manually force a ogg-file to sett winamp as deafult program for it

installing ogg vorbis plugin is not the solution either
now solve it for me :p

JonnyMac 29th October 2008 08:03

Well, if you want us to solve the issue we will need Winamp & system spces. http://smilies.vidahost.com/otn/tongue/crazy1.gif

Kloppstock 30th October 2008 12:28

I missed that unfortentley

Used Winamp 5.541, and later tested 5.24

Pentium 4, 4.2 Gz
2 Mb ram
sound blaster 2 ZS

Win XP service pack 3
I uninstalled interent explorer 7 and walked back to 6,
during the period when ogg stopped working i remember now, but maybe not related

and attachents below

How do i post multiple atachments in the same post?

Koopa 30th October 2008 15:40

Simply put all in a zip file.

JonnyMac 30th October 2008 16:42

Or, put the 'my_plugin_list' and 'Hijack this log' in one text file.

Please use the plug-in version of One for Nunz (plug-in list generator) as described here instead of the external list generator.

Kloppstock 30th October 2008 20:08

Unfortentley winamp refuse to start with the plug-in version
so im forced here to copy the other "my_plugin_list_ext" into the end of this hijack this log

JonnyMac 30th October 2008 22:04

You are still using Winamp 5.24, I thought you just did that for testing purposes. Try a clean install of Winamp 5.541.

Kloppstock 31st October 2008 12:49

I have done the clean install now and i never found thoose remains manually accually

"Could be cause i allways ahve used Your Uninstaller 2008"
- Kloppstock
;)

I have find out one thing atleast, i can acccually play oggs, but i must from winamp choose open and select the broken icon file, infact i cant longer get computer to relate ogg to any media player i allso have tested, it doesnt react if you tick make standard player

before i did this clean installation i got 500 other hits on winamp related keys in my registry editor, i can offcorse delete them all but its offcorse a risk other name-like keys will die in that

i wonder if the installed codec packs, i allways uninstall and reinstall when switching between them, could have finally maked my computer to loose the ogg-relation

JonnyMac 31st October 2008 18:37

In Windows Explorer or a folder session...
1. right click on a OGG
2. select Open With > Choose Program
3. from the box that pops up select Winamp from the list of Programs (you may have to use tge 'Browse...' button if Winamp is not listed)
4. checkmark 'All use the select program to open this kind of file'
5. click the OK button

winamp appear in that list as long as it is a mp3 file you are dealing with, but not in the case of a ogg, instead you must navigate to winamp folder and select winamp exe, but even if you select it and click, it fasst chooses acrobat reader instead! cause its the first item in the standard list, that is what the computer accually recomend as recomended program lol,
when its a ogg there is no "open with" its just a "open" with no left arrow

JonnyMac 31st October 2008 21:51

Sorry, I missed you mentioning that. If you Shift+'Right Click' do you get a Open With option? If so are you able to proceed form there?

Or maybe this...

1. From a Windows folder/Explorer session select Tools > Folder Options
http://stashbox.org/283143/1/Folder_Tools.GIF

2. File Types tab > highlight/select OGG from the list > Advance button
http://stashbox.org/283146/1/Folder_Opts.gif
The Advance button should be under the Change button in the 'Details for' box. If you see Restore instead, see the Note below.

3. select 'Play in Winamp' > Edit button

4. under Application used to perform action: should be...
"C:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.exe" "%1" make sure the command path and %1 are in double quotes (not 2 single quotes) each as shown in the bold print. The actual command path will depend on where you installed Winamp. There should be a single space between the command path and %1. Make any appropriate changes.

5. make sure 'Use DDE' is checked and as follows
DDE Message:
leave blank
Application:
winamp
DDE Application Not Running:
leave blank
Topic:
System
6. OK button
http://stashbox.org/283152/1/Edit_Action.gif

7. select 'Enqueue in Winamp' > Edit button

8. under Application used to perform action: should be...
"C:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.exe" /ADD "%1" with the /ADD Not in quotes and a single space on each side of /add. The actual command path will depend on where you installed Winamp. Make any appropriate changes.

9. same as Step 5

10. OK button > OK button > Close button

Note: If at step 2 you see a Restore button instead of Advanced click the Restore button. Then try proceeding from step 2 again.

I am starting to run out of ideas. Anyone else?

Kloppstock 1st November 2008 09:05

Thanks this have helped translate cause i have a swedish windows xp

On step 2 i noticed that OGG is accually not in that list at all, i found the surrouning ones (OGM have a broken icon by the way) so i accually took some own intiative by trying to create the Ogg extension instead in that "new" box there, i just wrote "OGG" but when highlighting it after and trying klick advance it doesnt react, cant open advance
and if i exit the folder-alternative box the new created ogg is gone again when returning, probably cause i couldnt relate it to a program

so my computer truly have a problem

JonnyMac 3rd November 2008 13:33

A couple good forums for general tech support are Suggest A Fix and Tech Support Guy. Although they are not affiliated with or endorsed by Nullsoft/Winamp, they have been commonly suggested here at Winamp Forums.

Kloppstock 5th November 2008 12:48

Ok i will do that, thanks anyhow

Try this...

Close Winamp and any other media players

Download the attached zip file

Extract and run Winamp_Ogg.reg

Confirm to merge it with the Registry

I get a message that

"registereditor
can't be imported, error occured when the file should be opened, a disc or filesystem-error could have occured"

Oops. You've got Winamp installed to C:\Program\Winamp, not C:\Program Files\Winamp like it is in the reg file.

I've attached the edited version which points to the correct path to winamp.exe

However, I doubt if that's the cause for the error.

Are you logged on to the system with an administrator profile (recommended) or a limited-user profile?

Go to: Start -> Run
Type in: regedit
Click OK

In the left pane, right-click: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
Select: Permissions

Highlight: Administrators (%USERNAME%\Administrators)

Make sure "Allow" is checkmarked for both "Full Control" and "Read"

Repeat for SYSTEM

Now try to run the new .reg file
(be sure to extract it from the zip first, don't try to run it from inside the zip)

If the problem persists, let me know what's checkmarked for:
Users (%USERNAME%\Users)

(where %USERNAME% = Your Profile Name)

Please also attach a proper/full List Of Plugins
(read the instructions again)

Im administrator,

that was interesting i cant find the folder "Permissions" in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

DJ Egg 8th November 2008 04:14

It's not a folder. It's a context menu item.

Right-click HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, and you'll see 'Permissions'....

Still also waiting to see your full List Of Plugins :-)

Kloppstock 9th November 2008 21:18

One sec, this will take time :)
