unicode in m3u8 entry changes
example:
C:\Media\Music\Various Artists - Singles\Suman Shrestha - Baadha Parun Jati.mp3 #EXTINF:261,Taichi - æ¯ä¸€å¥èªªè©± C:\Media\Music\VARIOU~3\TAICHI~1.MP3 #EXTINF:191,Tarcy Su - Lemon Tree (國語) C:\Media\Music\VARIOU~3\TARCYS~1.MP3 #EXTINF:193,Tarcy Su - Lemon Tree (粤è¯_) C:\Media\Music\VARIOU~3\TARCYS~2.MP3 #EXTINF:200,Teresa Teng - ä½_怎麼說 C:\Media\Music\VARIOU~3\TERESA~1.MP3 #EXTINF:210,Teresa Teng - çµè_˜ä½_那一天 C:\Media\Music\VARIOU~3\TERESA~2.MP3 #EXTINF:274,The Unity Feat. Kranti Ale - She's The Bomb C:\Media\Music\Various Artists - Singles\The Unity Feat. Kranti Ale - She's The Bomb.mp3 #EXTINF:210,Tsang Hong Sang & Elaine Ho Yuen Ying - å†è¦‹äº¦æ˜¯æœ‹å‹ C:\Media\Music\VARIOU~3\TSANGH~1.MP3 #EXTINF:419,Twins - Burn It Up (Medley: å…«å塊環éŠä¸–界/一時無兩) C:\Media\Music\TWINS-~3\12-TWI~1.MP3 #EXTINF:205,Twins - 一時無兩 C:\Media\Music\TW0705~1\01-TWI~1.MP3 #EXTINF:213,Twins - ä½_最紅 (viewed this in notepad and in winamp) this really isn't a problem for playback since it plays the songs. the problems doesn't arise until the playlist is imported back into winamp after a system rebuild with the files in the same file location, or exported to ipod, in which the ipod cannot play the file; what i did: saved my original playlist as m3u8. rebuilt computer and installed everything. imported the playlist and added some new songs. the new songs, also in unicode, showed the playlist entries just fine, but the above happens to all the other 'old' entries. also when i right click on some of the playlist entries on and go to the view file info.., the file path shows these characters above as well. this happens in both the media library playlists and when the playlist is enqueued in the playlist editor. HOWEVER when i right click on the these same files in the media library itself and view file info, it displays the full path: i.e., {C:\Media\Music\Various Artists - Singles\Alex To - 拯救地çƒ.mp3} compared to: {C:\Media\Music\VARIOU~3\ALEXTO~2.MP3} and just to clarify some points: 1. i am using m3u8 files to save unicode info 2. fresh system rebuild from format and xp pro install 3. up to date with drivers and all that 4. fresh winamp running with no skins, plugins, etc. besides the ipod...which has nothing to do with winamp changing the playlists entries |
just to clarify, if your browser shows some of the characters above as diamonds with a question mark in it, im using a character unicode utf-8 in firefox 3.0.3

whoops, forgot to post this
asus f8sa-x2 3gb pc6400 realtek hd ati mob radeon hd2600 vista home 32 bit dx 10.1 fresh install of winamp v5.541 full |
also i noticed that this happens when i right click on a playlist entry in either the media libray playlists or the playlist window and tell it to send the entry to a media library playlist:
{C:\Media\Music\Various Artists - Singles\Annabelle Liu - 舊夢ä¸é_ˆè¨˜.mp3} > {send to...} > {media library plalist} > {playlist} i find later that the plalist entry it sent it to now holds the entry as: C:\Media\Music\VARIOU~3\ANNABE~1.MP3 ...when i right click on that entry and click on 'view file entry' just need to mention this too cause i think this is where winamp is having the problem. it seems that there is an issue with the program shortening the file path cause winamp already knows where the file is located. this is a problem when it comes to exporting the playlist as an m3u8 or transferring the playlists to an ipod or mp3 player. ---chook |
