The Visuals are still not working when I play my cd's. The box for cdline-in plug in is checked to sample input from sound card. Does anyone have any other suggestions. I posted an origional message on may 28th around 6:00pm. Fyi- this feature was working, and one day it stopped.
I also have musicmatch(downloaded freeware version) on my computer if it matters
HELP -MPO1-

Try downloading the CD-reader input plugin it will most likely solve your problem.

Do you have a DVD drive rather than a normal CD drive? I have the same problem as you and I have a DVD drive. I don't know if this is the answer, but it could narrow things down.

I'm having the same problem and i have a DVD player as well. But what's strange is that when i use my other cdrom which is not dvd, the same happens. Maybe its something with the decodec card ..?? can't be ... but i don't know

Did you try the CD-reader plugin ? Have you ticked the checkbox on the CD/Line-in plugin ?

Winamp was never meant to actually "Play" (process) cd's. Instead, what it does is it talks to the cdrom and tells it to digitally press the play button. Then the cdplayer does it's thing and the output goes directly to the soundcard. This is the reason for the cable that connects the cdrom to the soundcard. Its just like actually pressing the play button on the cd player face.

The CD Reader plugin that was so convineintly made, either samples directly from the cdrom (like a cd ripper does), or it samples from the soundcard (i dont even know if thats possible). So this means that the plugin talks to the cd player, and instead of telling it to press play, it reads the cd. And this means that output is now actually going through winamp. This is why the Vis and shoutcast now works with the CD Reader plugin.

I hope that i cleared a few things up here.

And no, having a dvd drive is not causing visuals to not play. A dvd drive is basically a souped up cdrom drive that can read 7gb disks http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif.

Daamn, what a problem... http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
First, you need to make sure that sampling is enabled in CD/Linein plugin config. If still doesn't work, you need to change recording volume settings in Windows' volume control.

I don't know if this is just specific to me, with my cheapo sound card (Telesound 3d), but if I go into the advanced soundcard options in the .wav output of the mixer and turn off karaoke mode, then visuals work. However, to use basically any game with redbook audio (cd audio) and sounds, I have to turn it back on, other wise I get a hissing and no other sound output. Hope this helps. ---Mike

Winamp needs to record audio data from sound card in order to VIS with CD. Bad things might happen when you try to play some other sound while recording since older sound cards can't play and record simultaneously. The only way to get rid of this problem is to buy something like SBlive http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/cool.gif
