Probably a bad DirectShow audio filter...
Try ffdshow

If the problem persists, see above link for details of what info we require.

-dxdiag log
-Media Info log(s) for problem video file(s)
-List of DirectShow filters Winamp says it's using when you try to play said video(s).

I have been having the exact same problem. All audio files play, and so do .mkv, .asf, .wmv. But when I try to play .mpg and .avi files, "error creating DirectSound Buffer", error code 80070057. I have already tried reinstalling Winamp, and also have reinstalled codecs. Please help.

I am running an AMD Turion 64 X2 at 1.9 GHz each core. Graphics card is ATI Radeon, Soundcard is Realtek HD Audio. No third party input/output plugins installed. RAM 1 GB, Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP1, DirectX version 10, Winamp version 5.551 Full, and when I go to File Info to see the Video Filters being used, it shows a blank list - maybe because the file is not playing?

Thanks.

Oh, and I have browsed through the forums, searched for the same error code, and haven't been able to find a working solution.

KunalGolani 30th March 2009 13:30

Media Player Classic bundled with K-Lite codec pack, and VLC are able to play the same videos.

KunalGolani 30th March 2009 13:36

ffdshow also up-to-date.
