Songs not showing up on the iPod
Hi,
I'm using WinAmp 5.551 together with a brand new iPod Nano 8GB. I do not have iTunes installed and want to use WinAmp as my preffered music tool to also get songs onto my iPod. Within Winamp all seems quite fine, I can connect the iPod to winamp it shows up in the Library under Portables and I can syncronize my Winamp with my iPod. After syncroniozign I can also see the songs on the iPod (and can start them from there evenso I have removed them from my harddrive). All fine till here but it comes to an issue when I try to eject my iPod. This not not work and I also get an error message whether something else is using my iPod (which isn't the case). When I shut doen my laptop and disconnect the iPod I can't find any music on it. I can scroll down all menues but everywhere it tells me that there is no song on it. When I connect it again with my laptop WinAmp shows me that all songs are on the iPod (and I can also see them in the directory of the iPod). What's wrong here? Thanks, Voldi |
I'm in the same boat as Voldi. My new iPod Nano says there are songs on it (at the bottom of the menu screen), but they are nowhere to be found. I have been using Winamp to manage my iPod mini (2nd generation) prior to this, with no problems really.
Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks. |
Same problem with a Classic.

I'm having the same problem with a 2nd gen iPod nano (8gb). Everything was fine until I upgraded to 5.551.

Same problem here. I upgraded to the latest Winamp with my 60 gig and it's like my ipod got a lobotomy. The songs are there, and they'll play through any PC I plug it into. However, on its own the ipod can't find any songs or playlists. Any solutions for this yet? I miss my stuff.

Update...I managed a work-around, although not a complete fix, for this problem. On the computer that "lobotomized" my ipod, I had 5.551. On my main computer, I was still running 5.541. I plugged my ipod into my computer running the older version, 5.541, and moved some songs onto my ipod.
Back to normal! I hope this helps you guys in the interim until there's a real fix available. |
^ So the questions is: "What is the newest version of winamp doing/not doing differently than the older version(s)?"
I know it's the weekend, but a technical response from the winamp staff would be great. I'd like to have my iPod working again. |
The individual who suggested using Winamp 5.541 is brilliant, and his suggestion should be duly noted. I found that Googling the older version of Winamp and installing it (in a separate folder, "Winamp 5.541" rather than just plain "Winamp" as 5.551 currently occupies that folder) and using it to remove and add a song restores the iPod's main listings. (I too have an older generation iPod Nano.)
I believe that as long as you don't open Winamp 5.551 when your iPod is plugged in, things should be fine. Should your iPod listings get wiped again, simply return to Winamp 5.541 and restore them. To prevent later confusion, you may also want to disable the Winamp Agent and deselect file types so that Winamp 5.541 doesn't steal from Winamp 5.551 and other music programs you may have. I plan to update Winamp 5.551 as soon as a new version comes out, and to keep Winamp 5.541 as a backup until it's been confirmed that there are no conflicts between whatever new Winamp version comes out and our older iPods. Thanks for the help on these forums. I hope this helps in turn. |
For what it's worth after updating to 5.51, winamp only recognises ipod (g3) if it is connected when winamp is running otherwise doesn't see it.
I can sync songs once and they appear on the ipod, sync again and I can see nothing. No amount of restoring to factory defaults resolves this. Frustrating as I don't want to use itunes and there is no option to download and go back to winamp 5.41 (which worked fine!)on the website. |
I probably have the install file somewhere on my computer at home. Let me know if you haven't found it anywhere yet.
