set up internet radio presets !
This is my workaround answer for wanting internet radio stations programed into a button or shortcut, like your car radio has station presets. I didn't see this documented anywhere, so here goes and I hope everyone finds it useful. (There are skins that have station presets, but I prefer the classic skin.)
The workaround is to create a windows shortcut on the desktop that uses the /PLAY command line parameter. You can do it so each station has its own windows desktop icon, or, what I did, was put them all in one desktop folder called "Radio Stations". Makes it real easy for the non-tech family members. (It works for individual MP3 files, too.) First, create a windows shortcut on the desktop that points to winamp.exe. Then, edit the shortcut so the TARGET field goes like this: Example: "C:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.exe" /PLAY http://216.155.137.150:8030/listen.pls (or put the path to a mp3 file after /PLAY) The shortcut created in the above example opens winamp and plays a radio channel in one click; the same as if someone opened winamp, clicked the top left icon, then bookmarks, etc. (My computer has winamp associated with .pls files. I forget if that is something winamp does automatically when installed or if I did it manually.) It takes a little bit to set up a shortcut for each station, but once it is done the non-techies in the family can listen to their favorite stations by just clicking on a desktop shortcut. And if you click on the shortcut to another station, winamp jumps right to it, just like a well behaved radio should. |
