Windows file info
I've used Winamp for years without issue, but today I decided to rip all my CDs in FLAC format, and ran into a pretty major problem. Well, two actually.
The first one deals with the artwork. I manually edit all of the cd/song info before ripping since Gracenote seems to be pretty bad when it comes to having bad information (or comments like "THIS CD PWNZ!!11!11!one!", however I can't seem to add artwork. I go to download, select the image, but nothing even happens. After the songs are ripped, I can go through one by one ad add the artwork, and it works just fine... but it's a pain. Why can't I just add the album art before ripping like all of the other information? Secondly, Windows has no file info at all when viewing songs in their folder. I only save the songs as the name, so right now I can't view album, artist, or anything unless I load it in Winamp first. This has always worked fine with MP3/MP4 encoding, but doesn't seem to work with Flac. Does flac not support showing information in Windows Explorer? If not I'll have to switch back to MP4 for my encoding. I'm using Windows Vista x64, current version of winamp. |
Downloading artwork doesn't depend on file types. You can't download it for a CD because you can't write to one. It would be a nice feature to have it get the artwork when one does rip a CD.
As for Explorer, ask Microsoft. There might be a shell extension that will read the tags on flac files for showing in Explorer but I am not aware of one. |
